I ask this cos I'm an idiot. I've been playing this game long enough to know that you dont go through the channel but... I went through the channel.
Brand new career and the patrol started Sep 1st at midday. Without doing any speed/distance calculations I figured I'd have plenty of time to get through der kanal before the curtain went up. At ahead full I got as far as Brighton. I haven't been harrassed by anything that can depth charge me yet but theres a pesky little torpedo boat following me everywhere. I swear he must have asdic. And his machinegun fire is a bit too accurate for my liking.
This shortcut is taking longer than a trip around the Hebrides!!!

they are nuclear powered - your hosed.

i would think he would have enough fuel to run the span of the channel but thats about it. if your using GWX you better lose him quick lest he calls in his friends who will do a much better job of hunting you down.

yeah if he keeps following you he will call for better friends and they will come if ur using gwx so might be better either to......
1. surface and take him out (doesnt take much)
2. settle on the bottom and wait till he buggers off obviously silent an all that razz ma jazz
Haven't you been here long enough to hear: Stay aus das Kanal?
Tommy and his fellow Pierre will come over a knock the rust off your boat.
Meanwhile, can I have your gramophone and those nice disks you have?

I've plowed through the channel once and only once and it was by sheer luck that none of the allied ships noticed me. This was with GWX too. We made it all the way to our patrol area only to be sent to the bottom by a convoy escort that day.

Ahem, it should say "Halten Sie sich aus dem Kanal heraus"! :know:
In my opinion, a good way to get rid of Elcos is to navigate close to a coast or do a harbour raid, those idiots typically run ashore or crash against the harbour quays. :p

They have more fuel that a large tanker!:yep: Set them alight and they leave a burning trail behind them!:arrgh!:
They make great target practice by sharpening up your deck/AA guns skill. :ping:

Sure they run out of fuel, the question is, will they do so before you run out of air :D
Also going through der Kanal in 39 is doable, and if your not in the narrowest shallowest bits, and are harassed by elcos, dive! otherwise I had a great time staying surfaced and dodging half-asleep DDs while staying decks awash. great adrenaline rush :D
concerning Tommy and Pierre coming for you, sure, but when they do you may already have made a significant dent in their merchant marine because those are also all in der Kanal for some reason. just don't waste any battery juice going after schooners doing 9 knots.

Go below at silent running and after about 30 (game time ) minutes he'll be on his merry way :arrgh!:

I lost patience with him, surfaced and blew his ass outta the water. Matrosengefreiter Schmidt seems to have been killed however whilst manning the flak gun. The next tramp steamers for you Johannes

That's why I suggested you submerge....the guns they carry can really make a mess of your crew :yep:

Has any one happened to hit one with thier 88 or 105, I'd love to see what happens to thoses little buggers when there hit :hmm:

2 good hits from an 88 kills an elco boat. I've tried. But... its better to not engage them as they have lethal cannons on their boats which a) kill your crew and b) put lots of bullet holes in your hull.

In my First GWX patrol a Elco took me out by itself I had flak guns and deck guns targeting it but my crew kept missing and then my crew all died because the hull was pierced all over the place.
I coulden stop laughing.

Those Elco's are damn pesky, so I just take them out with my twin flak - no more Elco.

Overkill'r'us. One 10.5 deck gun shell works admirably.

Last Elco I engaged on the surface survived TWO direct hits from my 105.
Then I decided to dive and didn't make it more than ten meters down before everything flooded and we sank.

If you like Elcos head down Freetown way. The little beggars spawn like demons just north of the harbour as I learned before.
They do seem to exact a disproportionate amount of punishment on a u-boat. Not in terms of crew injuries which I can accept but the hull damage from machine gun fire seems a bit severe

You have to remember that a U-boats pressure hull was only about 20mm thick, and elcos and vospers and MTBs and MGB were armed with 20mm Olnikeron cannon and 50 cal machine guns, these guns would have no problem pentrating 20mm of steel...
Just get a Quad flak and blow the wee buggers out of the water... Muwhahah

The 37mm twin is by far the most effective showstopper :arrgh!:

Smashed them with an 88 before. The single 20mm is good early war against them.
Channel is great in a storm, the one that gives you "Depth 10metres" messages lol!
I went right past a CnD and another destroyer while raiding Dover.
They didnt see me, storm was hellish.
Got to get that pic up...was hialrious, about twenty searchlights and allot of gunfire! A pesky elco crashing around doing very little.
