View Full Version : Penalty for unused torpedos?

I was just wondering if a skipper (in this game) would be penalized with less renown if he returns to base with unused fish. The reason I ask, as you know when returning to Pearl, you typically have to stop at Midway for fuel and you get torpedos also. Should I ehh "lose" the fish or does it matter?

Or you can call in a patrol report and recieve new orders (after recieving a new load of munitions).

Thank goodness too! I'd have negative renoun if that was the case due to hitting up a tender on the way back to base ending my patrol.

"Hey Frank you came home with full torps! The high command won't look too kindly on this!"

"I just got them 3 days ago on the way back... something about company policy meaning I couldnt' get just fuel."

You know what'd be cool... realtime sub tending. Docked up to the ship for several hours while torpedos are craned over and put below decks. Big fuel hoses to your tank. Maybe some minor repairs affected. Subject to weather limits of course. Ahhh *dreams*

Now that would be really nice. Right now, it's an immersion-breaker to have fuel and ammunition instantly replenished.

It'd also be great to actually see the crew come up on deck and cast off lines to on-shore dock workers, who then actually tie up the boat to the pier. Maybe in SH5...or 6, or 7... :rotfl:

I didn't think it would but I was reading somehere on here and kinda got the idea that it might. I too would love to see a real sub tender.:yep:

They are? is there a model that moor's them next to a dock to visually see?

It would be cool if you had to maneuver your boat next to a tender, cast in lines and begin refueling/reloading efforts; with minor repairs given (like fixing broke diesel engines :) ).

I was a TM and weapon loading and being a topside/line handler were a few of my primary duties. I loved it; especially when we were pulling in and out of port. I was the last one in the boat before going out to sea, and the first one topside before we pulled into port. I can still smell the salt.:D

No, they are all takling about sub tenders for the US they have sea plane tenders for the Japs though, but yeah I would like to see that 2 it would look pretty cool.

yes, the penalty is you forgone the chance to sink ships, which gives you renowns in return (something like opportunity cost)

If you return base with unused torpedo (I sometimes leave 1 for saving myself from running into a DD lol) your renown will not be deducted. But, as what I've mentioned, your chance to sink ships and get renown is forgone and you may treat this as a renown penalty

Yep, use your torpedos up if u want more renown. :yep:

that's odd. In RL, you'd likely get a poor endorsement if you "wasted" torpedoes. 2 per merchant might be forgiven, any more and they'd deal with you as if your aim was poor (nevermind that the torpedoes had a ~70% failure rate).

True, but I haven't really noticed if that is factored into the game.

Well I have a question. Do you get cash taken away if you sink a friendly ship? Because I did, it was a very stormy night and I ran into a ship off the coast of china and assuming it was a Jap I shot 2 torps into its side and blew it in 2 and then I looked at the quickly sinking flag mast and it was an American ship

Yeah take the renoun that ship was worth, multiply it by 5 or 10 and put a negative sign before it. Happy hunting. :arrgh!:

That would be awesome. I usually order an all stop and wait a few hours after refitting to simulate the time it would take. That's just me being a rivet counter though ;)

Woops....guess I need to find a Yamato to get some of that renown back then.

If you just lost renown for sinking a USN ship, your lucky. I got court marsheld for sinking an ausie ship.
