View Full Version : Plunging to the bottom (loading savegame)

Hello fellow captains,

I think most of you already know what I'm talking about, or have even experienced it themselves. Sometimes when I load a game (latest version of GWX) I plunge to the bottom... well bottom... the engine just screws up. I crash to 500something meters and that's it.

Now, I know that saving when having ships around is a bad thing, and one should always save on the surface. Last night however, I was well away from the convoy I had just attacked. I let TC run a few minutes, well to the point that there weren''t any stutters anymore, even when at 1024x.

What has me worried right now is that all savegames, well up before I even met the convoy, were damaged this way. Previously it was mostly just one corrupt savegame, no biggie.

I was on the surface and no ships around. Would activating the 16 km help? Right now, I can only be sure of 8 km... right? This bug rarely caused me trouble but last night was a bummer :cry: since I sank quite a few ships in a daring convoy attack that by now, never took place.

Tried going ahead flank and ordering a "blow ballast"? I've had this happen to me, as well. However, with a slim amount of luck, I made it to the surface after suffering a severe sink to 320 meters (that is, until I hit the bottom!).

If that fails, just update to 1.4 patch.

Are you using SH3 Weather?:hmm:

You may have the dreaded "windspeed=0" bug, check the campaign files in the main SH3 directory. Do a search here for the particulars. I am at work now and unable to remember the file names (3) of which need to be checked and corrected this could salvage the 'bugged' saves.

Good luck!

If you are playing GWX all the 3 files need to be WindSpeed=4.000000
Campaign_scr\Lnd and Rnd.mis

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Campaigns\Campa ign

found it doing the search for "saved games"!

@Stealth Hunter: Yes, first thing I tried. But speed and ballast doesn't really matter, it's as if there is no water. I also do not get crushed. Controls are useless. It's like somebody pulled a plug in a bathtub, bam, I'm on a one way trip to the bottom. My game is patched to all the latest SH3 and GWX patches.

@danlisa: Yep :hmm:

@Wilcke: I will try that!

Thanks guys, more to follow tonight when I get back from work.

FYI I *believe* that SH3 Weather v1.5 fixes this fault.

Grab it from here (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/Setup_SH3Weather_1_5.exe) if you don't already have it.

I'll check that too! It's been on my drive a while so I had no idea there even was a newer version. Thanks m8!

Well, it wasn't the Weather thingie, I already had 1.5, but all windspeed was set to 0, so that seems to be it!

So far so good, thanks so much people :up:

Do you mean GWX 1.04 ? :hmm:

Good job, I just docked happily at Las Palmas with quite a few ships under my belt. Should it happen again, I'll try to take a screenshot. While searching for 'windspeed bug' I noticed there doesn't seem to be one.

Might complete the dossier so to speak :hmm:

U-502 signing off, I have an appointment with a certain Caribean Tanker Lane :smug:

I just encountered this problem after reading this thread a day or two ago. All fixed up now, but it was a terrifying ride to >350 meters with my watch crew manning the conning tower the entire time (take a very deep breath and hold it!). Thanks for a quick'n'easy solution.
