Difference and use of the 2 periscopes?

What is the difference between the observation periscope and the attack periscope? And when would I use observation scope as opposed to the attack periscope? It seems useless for me that u-boats have two since I have no need to use both anyways.

Observation periscope is just that...for observation. Especially for aircraft. It has a low magnification and wider field of view than the attack periscope.

The obs periscope is particularly useful for those times when you're "schnorkelling" since with the diesel's running you are essentially deaf and the hydrophones are useless.:know:

Real-life Kaleun's would routinely use the obs scope before surfacing...especially in the latter war years when the air threat was much greater.

They would also often use both scopes at once, for better 360° observation.

Wait till your attack periscope is damaged or destroyed as a result of depth charge or gunfire attack....you'll have a use for it then :arrgh!:

The Observation scope is very useful for looking otut for aircraft, but dont leave it up to long as it has a larger wake than the attack scope and can be easily spotted. I did this once and got a "special delivery" from the RAF - and got sunk:damn:

Observation periscope is typically used for observing, spotting, and studying... basically, what's in a name. Attack periscope is... well, used for attacking.:lol:

Observation has better night vision because of the wider aperture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture).
