I looked at the screens of shells of fury and it seems to me like the set up is almost the same as Silent Hunter's; what do you think?

I'm still going to buy it though!!!

although it might have the same kind of graphics and such from SH2. it is NOT made by Ubisoft (Ubischoft :rotfl:)
and it is WW1 wich Ubisoft didnt think off. and to be honnest. i rather play 1914 Shells Of Fury than SHIV :yep:

I thought Ubi just published it. I could have sworn I saw Strategy First as the makers of SH3.

I am always interested in hearing about things like the above, real-life stuff. This is gaming, but to have been there...., I have nothing but respect\admiration for all veterans.

Doesn't look too bad I guess... http://www.shells-of-fury.de/

Features:
- World-wide first U-boat simulation of the WWI period.
- Play from the German perspective.
- More than 50, partially historically correct, missions in 3 campaigns.
- Four different German U-boats playable: Fleet gasoline boat, Fleet diesel boat, UB-I and UC-II.
- Several enemy combat units, including Ironclads, Destroyers, Zeppelins and Aircraft.
- Player-determined realism degree for varying degrees of difficulty.
- Real-time play possible.
- Free bonus on DVD: Small WWI encyclopedia.

But isn't it based on the SH2 engine???

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye out on this... http://www.pt-boats.net/

No, it is a stand alone game, submarines yes, but totally different time period thus unique.

I know that, what I am asking is, is it based on the SH2 game engine? I am not asking if it is an addon for SH2 (note SH2, not SH3). It's just that I'm sure I read somewhere that it uses SH2's game engine. I just want to know for sure as this may give an indication as to how the campaign is structured.

I would say every subsim copies Silent Service 2, if not the original Silent Service.

I never played Gato, though, and I have heard that name pop up also.

From what I can gather Strategy First is no longer associated with it, I may be wrong though, I never heard about it before now, any idea when it was released? :D
Also as USS Sea Tiger said - is it moddable, any active forums?
Thanks.

I read JScones remarks about what the game "has as a base of operating" and if that's all 1914 Shells of Fury has to offer, I'll stick with SH3 and GWX.

Could be promising, if there are any patches, or mods released.

As it is though, it is a little lacking in areas.

Hi d@rk51d3.
As it is though, it is a little lacking in areas. I assume from your statement that you have a copy, could you elaborate - does it have a dynamic campaign?:-?
By the way I live in Clare Valley! (did I mention that before?)
Cheers.

I can't really tell, yet. Installed it last night, or was it the night before...?:hmm:
I'll need to get a bit more playtime in before I pass judgement. It will help pass the time waiting for GWX 1.04 anyway.:yep:

May have to purchase an english version now.:damn:

At least $20 is no great loss.

does it have a dynamic campaign?

I do have the original game published last year, in Germany. The answer is No. The campaign is heavily scripted and rather short. So scripted that if restarting missions, ships always appear in the same spot, at the same time, doing the same thing. SH2 deja-vu.

By the way I live in Clare Valley!

I passed through that way the other day, returning from a 1 month trip to / from Darwin. It was great to finally see a bit of green again.

BTW, I'm in Strathalbyn, and actually my name is Reece too.

The problem with that is when I read comments directed to you, often for a moment I thing they're talking to me.:rotfl:

CB has been doing some research into the mechanics of this game and for those interested there has been quite a lot of discussion on it over here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=120872

That's a damn shame, I was considering a purchase!:-?

Strange, as CB states categorically that the campaign is not scripted at all. I don't have the game yet myself so can't comment. Also, I thought that the game had only been released in the last month or so.

As I said, I purchased the version that was launched in Germany last year, under the name 1914 - Schalen des Zorns. It is German-language only.
The version that was launched now is the English-language adaptation, which took them a year to translate. Maybe during this year they also made some changes to the game engine.
For a very competent review of the game, check post #99 of this thread, by a very respected member of Subsim, Deamon.
