I was heading towards CJ18 as for my patrol area and while diving before an airplane my sonarman reported a Zorstorer with some echo. He gave me the headphones and after a while there was a strange screw sound - an aircraft carrier! Moving slow! I've awaited few minutes and started to proceeding towards the surface. After a brief check the sky was clear, we surfaced (the sea was like a table) and went full ahead flank toward the contacts. Soon a DD was heading towards us on the horizon and two Avangers came out of nowhere (from the carrier of course)! They went down with a big bang. The DD start shooting at us from 5kms.... Dive to periscope depth, make a lot of noise so he would know where we are and from the short dist put a magnetic under his keel... ups... DIVE, again periscope depth and lets try a bow shot. It worked.
Than another one, and another... here a new tactic is born, stay at PD, make a lot of noise, dance in circles with DDs, if they attack go straight and turn hard just before him then another turn, you get yourself in a zone where chargers from the bow and those from side launchers cant harm you, another turn and you've got him at nearly 90° AOB or he is at your 90° bearing. Just for a snap shoot! That is how the carrier was left alone, surface, full ahead and we've got him! Two last eels from 3500m made their job!
Now returning to base, patched up the boat, no radio contact so Onkel Karl will be upset till he hears the good news :arrgh!:
