Hi guys,

I have some questions in regards to the crew and renown.

1. I've returned from a patrol and now can give promotions and medals to my crew. Who should get promotions, officers or warrant officers or seaman? Also the same for medals. Should I give the more prestigious medals to my higher ranked crewmen or it doesn't matter?

2. I was also given more renown. From what I understand is that the more of it you have the better, however, it's spent when you buy upgrades for the boat or new crew members. So how do you keep the amount up? I imagine the medals and promotions that you get yourself also depend on this, but how do I keep it increasing while at the same time upgrading my boat?

3. In the realism settings there's one about the weapons officer gives help. What kind of help is he supposed to give? I don't think it's with torpedo targeting, because there's a separate option for that.

4. I'm able to recruit some better crewmen. Is it worth doing this? I mean it cost renown. Would it be better to just keep promoting the crew that you have already?

Thanks

1. You should promote the highest officers first, usually. This pays more off.

2. The very value of renown is in that you can buy upgrades with it. The more you sink the more renown you get. You have to save up for the upgrades. You get also renown for reaching and finishing the patrol and returning to base (rather than click "return to base")

3. Don't know, I have always played at 100% ;)

4. I think it's better to save the renown for ship upgrades. But it might be a good idea to recruit a few really good (500 renown) officers to start with. At least that's what I do. Spend the first renown on the officers.

I think, if you are using manual targeting, he gives you the firing solution for the target your scope is pointing at - range, AOB, speed, etc.

It depends. Early on it may help in developing a first-rate crew. For instance if I have a new officer with no qualifications, and in port I see one with exactly the quals I need, I have no hesitation in recruiting him. Same for POs. For seamen, it's not worth it.

Thanks for answering my questions guys!

I'm still confused about the weapons officer help, because there's a separate option for manual targeting, and I'm assuming by manual I'll have to do everything myself. So if I set manual targeting ON (meaning I'll be putting in all the variables) but also leave ON Weapon Officer help, what will that do?

Weapon officer helps identifying the ship and telling you how far it is, if I remember well.
