This just seems like one of those moments in time, that could really change the situation. And there players from every ethnic religious block on the team also. This is certainly good news for Iraq and the Iraqi people.

Yeah, it's pretty neat for them but I doubt that it will change anything. None of the players live in Iraq anymore because the team is Sunni, Shea, and Kurd they thought they would a targets.
On a side note 2 to 4 people died from falling bullets that were fired in the air in celebration. You miss getting blown up by suicide bombers, you miss be targeted by death squads only to be killed like that. That really sucks.

Well, they've won something, that's a good start!

Sadly, this win, and the reported collective celebrations of various religious factions in Iraq said more to me about how idiotically obsessed people can be about a game than it did about heralding a new dawn of peace between the People's Front of Judea and the Judean People's Front. The footage of soldiers in the streets firing AK-74s/47s into the air also demonstrated an appalling lack of discipline to me, imagine seeing any other army in the world doing that?

I sincerely wish that I was wrong, but I know I'm not.

:D Chock

Probably the only thing they'll ever win :hmm:

Well done to I guess, at least it's some good news and a reason to celebrate for them.

With the firing bullets into the air, that's nothing new in many countries. I don't know the numbers but plenty of people die from falling bullets every year. They shoot guns whenever they get the chance.

I remember hearing about a wedding in the middle east, where a guest fired his gun in celebration, but as it was in a room, the bullets ricocheted around the room killing a couple of people, including the bride, as well as injuring half a dozen more:huh::doh:

Back to topic: Glad to see they won. They have done well at other events in the past, coming fourth in the football in the Athens olympics.;)

Glad they won, but sadly I don't think it's going to change the way of life for them. Until they stop killing each other, there will be no peace and no country united

Peace? United? Fuhgetaboutit.

I say partition the damn thing; in a similar fashion to what happened with Yugoslavia. Shiites here, Sunnis there, and The Kurds up North. They deserve their own country- Turkey be damned. They were most unjustly overlooked in 1919, and they deserve their own country; even more than the Palestinians. The Kurds have been waiting longer, there are more of them than any stateless people, and this bull**** has gone on long enough. And they would be a REAL ally to the US/West. Finally, a chance to do some good!

Iraq is an invention of Versailles back in 1919, and sweet bugger-all that came out of that travesty was any good at all.
