Noob Sub Promotion Question

I have completed six missions and I am wondering if I will get a sub promotion or will I be stuck with the same sub type that I selected at the start of a career?

I am using Maru 1.4 mod if that makes any difference.

When you say you have completed 6 missions do you complete your objective and then radio in for other objectives, or just go off on your own?

A lot of people think SH4 operates the same as SH3 in that regard and that couldn't be further from the truth.

Sinking ships will get you renown points that can be used for upgrades, but completing a variey of objectives in the course of your partols will earn you favor with ComSubPac and that is what gets you the Sub upgrades (and other goodies).

Once you have confirmation thatyou have completed your initial objective you must radio in. You will recieve a second onjective. Once you have completed that, whether or not you still have torpedos, you should radio in for further objectives. Sometimes you will get one even if you don't have any torpedos left. If it is a patrol objective then just go and patrol (using the "Stay within 50 miles of icon for 48 hour" rule). Report any sightings of 3 or more ships (not Sampans) and you will not only complete your patrol objective, but will probably get orders to return to base. If you don't sight any ships, once you receive confirmation of a completed objective, then just proceed home, reporting any contact of 3 or more OpFor ships.

I have found that 3 or so patrols like this will get you an upgrade. But if you only complete 1 objective then you will be stuck in your present sub for a long time.

I am currently on my first career, 10th patrol, 4th sub (Asiatic Fleet) playng at 78% realism, and this has worked like a charm.

10th patrol? All ive seen here is people crying and moaning about how you get forced to retire after 6 or so patrols? (I havent made it past five, i restart when i die)

Well what can I tell you? If people are convinced it is a bug there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to change that, but my 10th is going well (July of '43).

Finally got SJ Radar on my boat and I am starting to feel indestructable.
