I just had to post it, I just completed my first real SH4 patrol, stationed in the Philippines serving under the Asiatic Fleet, I was sent to patrol off the area, I got lucky, immediatly as I come out of harbor I pick up an unidentified ship coming from north heading straight towards me, I plot out probable course etc and find a good 90 degree position for an attack, wait a few hours, BOY do I get lucky, two medium sized UNESCORTED Japanese oil tankers, send two torpedoes into the first, first hitting the front off it making a nice big gap, then hitting the engine getting a huge satisfying explosion, I let off two torpedoes at the tanker behind him, boom both hits, but this guy gets luckier, no big explosion and he runs off north trying to get between the other sinking tanker and me, I surface and stalk him with my deckgun, 20 minutes later the bastards finally sinks.
I go back to my specific patrolling area and patrols for 48 hours, RIGHT when the patrol is finally finished(Objective wise) I get a report of a small convoy heading my way, in the midst of the night, I again plot a course to intercept it at 90 degrees, after long waiting it finally arrives, it's a HUGE passenger liner, escorted by 3 destroyers, right, left and front, I figure out this must be some important people on that liner for it to be escorted by destroyers, I sneak into the convoy before they arrive, just a few meters around 1.6 nautical miles from the liner, right as it arrives in optimal firing position I fire off three torpedo, first hits front, second hits engine and the third hits right down the middle, a nice big light boom is seen and heard signaling that it's going down, I immediatly head to a depth of 160 feet, silent running, slowest speed ahead out of the area, right as I start heading down a destroyer gets lucky and hits me, but lucky for me there is no serious damage, just the deckgun being slightly damaged, after a few hours I can surface and head home, when I arrive home I am pleased, my first patrol I've apparently sunk over 30000 tons worth of boats, and I also get awarded a Purple Star for my efforts!
I'm currently running with all settings except manual targetting and no map contact updates turned on, using an array of mods, the most important one probably being the Natural Sinking Mechanics 2.6 mod.
Anyway I know this might be seen as spam but I just got so happy I finally finished a patrol and this time a decent one too.
My goal is to be able to play on maxed realism in a while, I have no problem with targetting etc, it's more a guide for no map contact updates that would be useful if anyone happens to have one, couldnt find one in the topic!
//Regards from a happy subcaptain!
