Does anyone know if sond traveling over water is modeled in the game....I don't mean ships, etc....I mean like when you're in enemy waters patrolling at night-will the AI detect you easier if you're playing the radio, gramophone, etc?

I've asked the same question myself, but never got round to answering it. I'll experiment and let you know. DDs should detect sounds, else why include silent running, but that may simply be a "detection reducer" rather than a realistic effect.
If I die, blame Benny Goodman.

OK I've done 4 quick tests and, as far as I can tell, surface craft do not detect the sound of the gramophone, either when you are running silent, or otherwise. It would seem that the gramophone and radio are "ear-candy" only and the sounds they generate don't affect gameplay.

That's good to know-but a little disappointing! I think I'll still act as if they do anyway- for immersion's sake. Thanks for checking it out!

Loading a torpedo and dropping wrenches all over the deck? Yeah you can be heard. Gramaphone? Nope, it's an iPod for your sub, nothing more.

And be careful opening your tubes. I found that out the hard way.
