Just started playing SH4 a while ago and haven't gotten very far but has run in to a little problem.

Got back from my 3:de patrol in my first career and got awarded a new sub a Gato, it's July 1942.

Now i have tried as many different ways i can but no matter what i do i can't get the SD radar to work, i have both the regular SD and the improved SD to choose from but neither works.

Now this is a little anoying since the SD radar on my old sub helped me alot in avoiding planes.

Now i'm about ready to load an older save and just continue with my old sub (Gar) and not take the new one, but if someone knows of a way to get the SD to work on my new sub it would be greatly apriciated.

If I understand you correctly...

The two radar screens that you can man in the game are both SJ Radars. One is an "A" Scope display and one a "PPI" display, but both are surface search SJ radars.

The SD, or "air search" radar, is not a mannable station. It is modeled as always being on and will still detect planes when they are within 15-20 miles.

You will only be able to get the mannable SJ radar from June of 43 onwards, but if your equipment screen shows that you have SD radar installed you should be good to go.

All of the above assumes you have 1.03 installed.

I have 1.03 installed and i know that the SD radar is not mannable.

I have the SD installed but it doesn't work because i don't detect the planes until my crewmen visualy see them.

And your post gave me an other question when should the different upgrades become availible?

Because you sad that the SJ doesn't become availible until June 43 but when i first took control of my new Gato i had the option to install the SJ and as i sad it is only July 42, and when should the improved SD become availible since i had the option to install that too?
