OK, as I was tired of dodging planes in 1943 I just started a new career in 1939 with IXB and I must say I like it. I never tried this boat. It's huge :) The deck looks like an airfield comparing to type VII. It's much more steady in rough sea. It's full of eels! 105mm also looks interesting...

Sunk two big merchants, first one in 0 visibility (english weather...) on my interception course from BdU reports, second one encountered on it's way around Britain. Now the weather gets better so I can ventilate the muzzles a bit :arrgh!:

Heading to pay a visit to US coast but Doenitz just sent me a message not to attack ships further than 20°W... oh well, a fat tanker should please him :|\\ Still have 17 eels!

Way to go Hadrys!!!!
I love these steel monsters too, they are my favourite ones... I like all IX versions, but the one I am really in love with is the IXD2. Now, just a question: after trying the IXb, would you go back to a VII? I know I won't.
I mean, with the IX you have more torps, more fuel, more speed, more everything, why settle down with anything less than the IX already offers you?

I only use the VII's in the Med after all it's only a pond.

As for the rest of the world it's the IX for me.

Now, as extra advise Hadrys, if you like the IX, try them with STEED's skins
Danlisa has some excellent pieces of art too.
@ STEED: I agree, in the Med there is no need for anything bigger than the VII. And as you well said, for the rest, there is the IX!! :yep:

I like the IXs but started a new 39 career with a VIIC. Can't complain, got well over 100K tons on first patrol :smug:.

the IXB is the best! I have trouble going back to my type II and type VII for sure. get FuBars late war skin and your set! makes the boat look all rugged:up:

I currently have an IXD2 and just got my heavy flak upgraded to a flakzwilling.. Love those quads  Now I just have to let the Elco's get in a little closer :rotfl:

Hmmm will I go back? I don't know... VII dives faster for sure, but underwater XI goes like a rock later... haven't done any hardcore tests yet but till now the boat behaves properly, turns etc. Most important it's more steady in heavy seas.

In general I would love to make few long and calm patrols. Also using proper amount of torps like 2 eels for ships >10k to be realistic. I was sinking huge tankers with 1 eel so with 21 torps I could get over 200 tons in one patrol easiely... not for me ;)

I don't like the conn tower, it's to small for this boat... need to upgrade asap.

I'll check out what Steed has to offer

IMO the type IX is not a suitable/realistic choice for the Black Sea :nope: ....but hey, whatever takes yer fancy

For me the VII tipe is a training boat like tipe II after a lot of time using big boats.

i always use the IX boats since "Aces of the deep" because i love the torpedo load, range, torpedo tube configuration and endurance.

with 21 torpedoes i can do 3 convoy attacks firing 6 torpedoes each.:arrgh!: with 3 torpedoes in reserve... a huge firepower.

Geeez what's all about SW stuff? U re freakin me out :rotfl:

Finished my 1 patrol after 2 months :stare: with 76510 tons of Allied ships incl. a patrol boat sunk with 3 rounds of 105mm and a DD. Well it wasn't the most realistic patrol ever... visited Halifax and all other 3 ports, nothing interesting. Could have sunk much more but run out of torps on that pesky DD...

Can I sink anything but a fishing boat with that 3.7cm gun or is it useless?

Tell me one thing, as this was a long patrol I had plenty of time to read all the messages. BdU orders to attack for ex. any tankers, even neutral (American) because they have a war cargo. So what to do? Will I get renown for sinking those or maybe a punishment?

I don't know about the boat, it's ok but is there such a big difference? Range is huge but standard VIIC was enough for me, in VIIC rarely I took out my externals as the weather was dull and in calm seas at stop I was like a sitting duck for mosquitos. In 39 I can do it as I haven't seen a single airplane.

I'll make another one, try to chase some convoys.

No you can't sink anything with it, it is useless.:rotfl:

These message are just immersion eye candy. If you do happen across any neutrals and sink them you will get a negative renown hit.

Which boat do you mean? There are significant differences between the types II VII and IX but only minor ones between classes within the types.

That's what the KM is paying you for:arrgh!: Get out there and sink em all!

Thought so. Good that I haven't sunk those two very phat american tankers...

Eeeer read again. What is this thread about? A Vader Duck? :rotfl: I say VIIC/2 without DG is all I need to be a killer with decent tonnage >50k on a short 20 day patrol, once in stock I tried C41 or 42 but I can't remember it even. This IX really dives too long... hmm. I'll go on my next assignment as I make my self a mug of coffee.

If and when you upgrade to the 3.7cm twin you'll find it to be the deadliest flack weapon of all :arrgh!:

That would be the end of my IXB career... I'm going back to my VIIC/2 without DG in 1943 campaign. Sorry this 9 is like a tank, surface fight with multiple DDs under heavy gunning from the shore. Sunk 5 DD from my gun? Excuse me but VII would be gone during the first encounter. Hull looked like a swiss cheese, lots of destructions, bombed, rammed but it still floats and the DG is working... I can't play realistic in this tank, sorry ;)
