This was probably one of the best games i've ever bought. I still install it every now and then and play it. There are always plenty of servers still kicking but i'm wondering if anyone else still plays and if so where?

It should be VERY cheap by now. Plus the GFX arn't so bad imo. I've spent a lot of time on this game and got my monies worth.

I tend to always go back to it after playing an MMO. I get sick of paying for the subscription and freelancer has one of the greatest multiplayer modes around. If only they made a sequel.

Yeah, i agree, Freelancer is very good. Have you tried Darkstar One? It's very similar to Freelancer but much better graphics. If you like Freelancer then you will like Darkstar One.

I was toying with the notion but it didnt look to
popular and there were not very many mods at
LancersReactor so I held off do you recommend it?

I'll check it out, might be what i've been looking for.

I've tried eve, it's a pretty good game but I prefer using my joystick. One thing I wasn't too happy about in freelancer but at least in that you have more control. I'm not a fan of the auto pilot nature of eve.

Just checked out Darkstar One but don't think it's what I want.

Single player only is it's major flaw, plus it seems you're limited to one ship. I know you can upgrade it but I prefer starting in a rust bucket and moving up from there.

X3 seems much better however that isn't multiplayer either. I've played X2 and X3 and can recommend them to you as a good space combat/trading game.

If anyone wants to sign the Freelancer 2 petition it's here:

Been around for ages and hasn't worked yet but it's worth a shot I guess.

I didnt like Darkstar 1 either, only one kind of ship i didnt like, also there is nothing to do when the story line is done, story line was decent though.

Spaceforce: Rogue Universe, is very pretty, but has alot of issues, first of all is the combat which is horrible, combat takes way to long and the ai ships dont use the same stats as your ship even though you can fly all the ships they do that are fighters. The most blatent example is how their shields recharge at an unbeliveable rate compared to yours, and the guns dont work very well (they run out of power almost instantly which makes for far too much trigger action). Then there is their story campaign which is one of the worst ive ever seen, it has it all from bad lines, bad acting, to bad unimaginiate missions. Your also limited to only fighters, and can own just one at a time. Add to that a steep learning curve with no tutorials and having the story throw you into a very difficult 2 ship dogfight from the start, and you got a game that i for one dont wana play.

X3 is pretty good all in all, especialy modded. There is an extensive scripting and modding community too. Its the one i play.

If your a hands on pilot like myself i wouldnt recommend Eve. Its a very good game and looks nice, but its 100% hands off in that you dont physicaly fly the ship, you just order it to attack and go here. I also found that i spent far to much time watching the game play itself, rather then me playing the game.

the only what might be called modding I did prior to starting here
in January this year was doing some system building using
Freelancer Explorer and System editor.

I gotta tell you being able to build a solar system is a truly cool
experience.

I really enjoyed this game as well...I've probably installed it half a dozen times over the years. There's just nothing like flying through the universe and having the freedom to do so many things.

Anyone ever tried Freespace 2? Freelancer reminded me about it. imo its the best space sim out there, certainly better than Darkstar One and will definately give Freelancer a run for it's money. Try it, i don't think you'll be dissapointed. btw: make sure you get mods for it, there's some great graphics type mods that dramatically improve the whole look of the game.
