Are you talking about THESE red disks? I DEFY you to prove this disk, legally purchased, having the Starforce protection, the Ubi name and logo, and everything else, is a copied or unofficial disk.

@Kingcobra24, nah thats a cheap imitation, here is the genuine (originaly near $100) item, or as Paul Hogen would say, That's not the disk ... this is the disk:

Ok, I can't help but notice that the really nice looking color disk has the same image as the Keyboard Layout Card if I'm not mistaken and missing the GameShadow logo.

I bought my copy of SH3 from Wal-Mart for a lot less than $100. Now, unless they requested changes to the software, I fail to see how there would be a difference in the disks other then maybe region. Where was the full color Disk bought?

I noticed there is a difference in the item number. The Red Disk has a 6 digit item number and the full color has a 7 digit item number.

I do find it odd that the full color disk has the Install Key Code right on the disk. Good place for safe keeping but not very practical when installing.

i got one like the 2nd picture.. the one with the code on it.
i buyed it in Belguim (europe where i live)

I'm thinking the U.S. version is the Red Disk then. I may be right that the disk design may indicate Region.:hmm:

Mine was pre-ordered before SHIII was released from EB Australia.:yep:

Hmmmm....maybe that's why mine has worked first time, every time without a single crash, glitch, freezeup, and everything else that seems to plague everyone else that's a member of this forum. Has anyone ever considered the fact that one MAY be an EMEA version, and the other is the U.S. version? As I said, show me in writing....proof positive that the red disk is a cheap imitation. If that's the case, then Ubi has a very strong case of copyright infringement since their name and logo are on the disk. (If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, well, I'm sure you're old enough to know the rest of it.) And, by the way, congratulations on showing the world your personal install code so that everyone that DOES have an illegal, pirated cheap knock-off copy now has a code to enter to enjoy their illegal spoils.:-j:(:nope:

Might I suggest removing an image with your CD KEY?

It's been awhile since I last reinstalled SH3 so I could be wrong, but don't you just need the key when you want to play online and not when installing?

Hehe, I think you'll find quite a few players have the *same* DVD key. My DVD, also purchased in Australia, looks EXACTLY the same as Reece's image, right down to the DVD key.

And the key is only required for MP.

Guys please refrain from posting pictures of the DVD with the key. If ya wana put up a picture, fuzz or box out the key. Starforce keys are usualy repeated as they arnt used for validating unique copies online, only used by the Starforce copy protection system.

Also the image Kingcobra24 posted is the north american dvd version (mine is the same).

Protection relies purely on Starforce, maybe different in USA.:yep: that's why I couldn't give a hoot who sees it!:D Your disk doesn't have a code ... probably ditched the idea or maybe yours is a pirate copy after all!!:arrgh!:
Don't worry Kingcobra, I like to tug the line every now and then!;)

Edit: Posted same time as you NeonSamurai .... I guess I'd better remove the picture!

Edit: Cripes, you beat me again!!!

Geez lighten up guys. If piraters wanted a CD key, they need only go to Ubi's own Knowledge Base and search for it there...

Here (http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10300&p_created=1111013249&p_sid=ZBCiQUHi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29yd D0mcF9yb3dfY250PTI0JnBfcHJvZHM9MCZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B 2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX 25sJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9c2lsZW50IGh1bnR lciAz&p_li=&p_topview=1) it is.

Hehe, alternatively piraters could even search this forum, or Ubizoo, as the key has been posted numerous times over the last two years. ;)

Oh, piraters with the EMEA version can get the key from the German Ubi forum or here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=89671) from our old friend Gizzmoe. Surprisingly (not), it's the SAME as the one on your disc, Reece. ;)

Is yours patched to 1.4 out of the box?....no dvd needed to play= no Starforce. The budget version of SHIII, which sells for about € 5,99 here has no Starforce, and is patched to 1.4 already.

IrischKapitan

Yes it already patched to 1.4.

Brilliant no starforce!!!!

I've ordered mine from a reputable online gaming software company here in the states. It'll be interesting to see what shows up. With any luck, it'll be the version already patched to 1.4 and without StarForce. Three questions:

1. If it is 1.4 out of the box, will I still need to download the 1.4b?
2. How will I know if it has StarForce?
3. If there's no StarForce, will that cause any compatibility problems for online MP?

:hmm: I don't think so.
It should depend on the version of the software.
For instance in italy, SH III was re-released as a budget edition 3 months ago patched to 1.4 and it doesn't have starforce nor the need for a cdkey to play via ubi.com.

I have the same coloured dvd disk. There should be sticker inside the case showing your key number.

Apparently, the red disk is the version sold in Canada as well - I bought mine at WalMart for about $48 Cdn (and the CD key is on a sticker inside the case rather than on the DVD, like the other red disks). I've never tried to play online, so I don't know anything about an error in that area.:-?

Anyone have the web address for on-line sales of a (legitimate copy) 1.4b patched/no SF version. It would save me having to disable SF everytime I want to use other software or some of my other games. Thanks.

I'm hoping to have a definitive answer to that question sometime next week, 3Jane. I ordered mine Thursday afternoon and hope it'll have those attributes. I'll let you know.

No one responded to my questions a few posts above this one, so unless the version number is printed on the label or can be determined by looking at "properties", I don't know how to tell if it comes patched to 1.4 (b?) without installing and running it. If it doesn't say "StarForce" somewhere on the package or on the label, I won't know if it's got it without running the program...something I do not want on my pc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
