View Full Version : A Major problem....

Someone tell me where to buy a Louis Vitton handbag for cheap, yet it has to be an actual Luios Vitton (or however you spell it). My wifes birthday is tomorrow, and for some reason, she wants a $1000 purse!!! Normally, I'd say no big deal if it were something useful, but a purse??? Come on! I'd even go for diamonds over a purse because it will still be around in 10 years, but a purse wears out!
A couple questions:
1. Am I thinking OK here, or more accurately, should I be justified at being shocked by the price tag on a bag?
2. Where would one go to obtain such an item at 50% off? I'm guessing $300 to $500 is much easier to swallow (but still outrageous for what amounts to a bag! Next they will be charging $100 for a bottle of designer water!).
Helllllpppp!

The deal is they "lease" these bags to you, and if you really like it you can buy it at a discount. So I guess it is kind of like leasing a car.
I personally have never bought anything from them.

:) Kind of leaving it to the last minute aren't you?

It's your dime and your wife. If you can afford it why not, it's her birthday.
My oldest daughter is into Coach bags and they run $300 up and her boyfriend has bought her two so far.
Personally I won't buy Levi's because I think they cost too much, but I have wasted money on my wife before just because.

Hmm - maybe they have good deals on bags? I can probably pop on into Seattle and take a look first hand I guess tonight.

Five desktops, three laptops, a SAAB, a Cannondale bike, and now Louis Vuitton! You like to live big on these forums, eh?
In Canada we have a chain called Winners (www.winners.ca/) which sells designer items from the last few seasons. I picked up an Italian suede coat last fall for $120 and I believe the regular price was $500. I don't know if there is an American equivelant to Winners.

Last minute is not my fault. I just found out what she really wants is the problem.
I hear you on the money for wife thing. That's why I bent over on the subjects of rocks (which is all they are to me). You can always resell a diamond if need be too, to trade up or whatever. For example, last I checked her wedding rings look nothing like what I bought her 9 years ago , but I just stay out of that stuff as long as she is happy. Quite frankly, I probably don't want to know how much she spent on those things.
But a purse? I still have not yet grasped the concept. I'll probably go look tonight I guess.

I didn't know anyone was keeping track??? :-?
Anyway, yes I have been to Winners. Was there a couple months ago when I was in Torronto. I did find some flip flops there since I forgot to bring any comfortable shoes on my trip.
I guess I got to bite the bullet on this one. Damn purse.

The add implies they have deals on bags, but who knows what that means.
I would call first just to make sure they have an actual store location.
Lucky me, my eminently sensible wife is not in the least bit interested in all that 'designer crap' as shen refers to it (and she herself actually designs stuff for a living), in fact she used to refer to Luis Vuitton bags as 'Luncheon Voucher Bags' - guess you have to be in the UK to fully 'get' the reference there - on account of the repeated logo on them (which I think I'm right in saying has now changed).
Overpriced crap if you want my opinion, especially since all of that 'designer' stuff, including clothes, bags and accessories is generally made under contract in the same factories as every other bag, coat or whatever, (admittedly with occasionally slightly better concessions to quality control), but the notion that there is a special bag factory somewhere that only ever makes Luis Vuitton bags is as preposterous as it is untrue.
I'm with you on diamonds though, you can't go wrong with those. But I'm also with Oscar Wilde when it comes to fashion: 'A thing so hideous, it has to be changed every six months'.
Still, if someone wants it, then I guess they want it no matter what.

So you are going to buy your wife a $1000 dollar bag? What does she normally buy you for your birthday?

Woo hoo! I'm off the hook! She found one for $650! It costs less and I'm done - double bonus! Now all I need is a card and a flower or something and I'll be completely off the hook for one more year! :D :up::up::up::up:

A card is fine with me. I'm a hard person to shop for - If I want something I usually have already bought it, but I do use the birthday thing as an excuse to get myself something. I'll let her wrap it up though.
