View Full Version : Air Raid or Bug??

I made the mistake of thinking I could refit at Darwin-got there and realized I couldn't-but it was getting late and I wanted to go to sleep-so I navigated into the harbor and "docked" in one of the empty berths-next to an Aussie ship.
Came to a nice stop, and saved game.
Next day when I loaded game-as I was about to depart the slip-I hear a siren and Ships around me all start exploding!
I couldn't see or hear any aircraft though-it seemed like they were all just exploding and sinking spontaneusly.....went to periscope depth and got the heck outta there!
Do you think that was a scripted air raid? or just some kind of start up in port bug?

i think when you load the game ships sometimes spawn on land or on the docks and explode.
when sailing into an enemy port occasionally ships are already burning because of this.

I made the same mistake as you, PULSEOX. I was coming into Darwin to refuel early one morning when all of a sudden at least two waves of ten aircraft each came flying over Darwin pounding everything in the bay. It was pretty exciting until I realized I couldn't refuel here and did not have enough to get me back to Freemantle...

Question: Did the Japs bomb Darwin in WWII? I was under the impression that their air cover did not extend that far.

Carriers ? Its a simulation not a historical re-enactment.
Anyhow at what time of the war did this happen ?

Oh, sorry for my ignorance. Guess I'll toss the map that came with the game, you know, the one that shows the Japs air cover at various HISTORICAL times of the war in the trash and not be surprised if I get bombed while docking in my home port of Freemantle. To be safe, would you recomend me docking at periscope depth?:-?

The Japanese did indeed manage to attack Darwin during the war.
The Japanese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan) air raids on Darwin, Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin%2C_Australia), on 19 February (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_19) 1942 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1942) were the largest attacks mounted by a foreign power against Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia). They were also a significant action in the Pacific campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_War) of World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II) and represented a major psychological blow to the Australian population, several weeks after hostilities with Japan had begun. The raids were the first of about 100 air raids against Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_air_attacks_on_Australia%2C_1942-43) during 1942–43.
We may have suffered some raids, but in the words of Australian band The Hoodoo Gurus: "Tojo Never made it to Darwin..."

I now can understand why the 'lurkers' or 'stowawayes' far outnumber the captains in port at any given time. You ask a simple question as I did above and the smartasses just can't contain themselves - even to a moderator

Thanks to CptWilkins who has the maturity to impart knowledge which I was unaware of.
Hi
Had the same experience, but it happened in Pearl Harbour, when I was ending my second patrol...as i enter the harbour, i save the game for the night, and the next day i load the game, and all hell breaks loose...
In addition, when i dock, the captains log in my "office" has still just recorded my sinkings form the first patrol, but in the "submarine aces" section, all my tonnage is mentioned...
Is this a bug? Will my log just show my tonnage from patrol 2 when I end patrol 3?
