I've been assigned to patrol off of Honshu Island and I've been everywhere around there sinking tons of ships and I can't get the patrol to say completed. I've even gone up in to Tokyo harbor, all the other harbors, it just won't turn that darned orange star to grey and show the patrol completed. Any clues on what I'm missing because I have patch 1.3 and I'm back to being sent to the same place over and over because even after I run out of torpedoes and have to return to Pearl it still says this patrol isn't completed?

U have to stay within 50-100nm or km or whateva radius of the patrol star for 48-72 hrs den u should get teh start to fade to grey, knowin dat u already completed the objective.

I believe it is 100km 0r 55nm for 48 hours for a 'patrol' mission.
If it's the 'engage enemy shipping' I think you need to sink 10,000t within the same radius.

As i have said before . Patrol within a radius of 50nm for a day , then go of and do some hunting . Come back in a few days or a week and patrol 50nm again and so forth and so on . Seems to work for me . Eventually the star will turn grey , or your hair , which ever comes first .

Spot on, with one refinement I discovered yesterday. After 3 other sets of orders, I received the word to patrol the East China Sea & engage enemy shipping I only had 4 torpedoes left and a few rounds of ammo for the deck gun ( It had been a busy patrol.)
I always use the compass tool to draw a 50 nm circle around the star and stay within it until "mission complete".
Anyhow, I started to make the trip and about 50 nm short of my circle intercepted a juicy convoy. I sent in a contact report and imediately received a new set of orders to "inflict damage on escorts to make follow-up attacks easier." They were orders with an "incomplete" next to them, so I didn't have a choice if I wanted to complete the patrol.
I used all 4 remaining torpedoes to sink the 3 escorts and had to watch as the merchants sailed away over the horizon. Several of them were armed, so popping up and blasting with the deck-gun wasn't an option. When it was clear I surfaced and sent in a status report and got a "complete" against the order to engage escorts, but "Patrol East China Sea and engage enemy shipping" was still incomplete.
I finally crossed into the circle ( 50 nm patrol area around the star ) with no torpedoes. I sailed around for about two and a half days, doing nothing. Everything that came my way was either armed, or escorted by warships.
Suddenly the star turned to grey and I could set sail for home ( Pearl ).
So, I think that somewhere in the game it recognises that it's pointless to have unarmed boats out there and gives you a "complete" even though you may not have sunk the required amount of tonnage.
This game so rocks!

This is good. In 1.2 I sank the whole convoy and the mission was still incomplete. This is fixed then......

I think the program saw your patrol as completed. Not because you were out of torpedoes, but because you stayed within 50 Nm for 48 hours.....
Good patrol though

The problem I have is that I am told that the order's have been completed, but when I get back to my home port I can't 'end patrol'.
The options I get are 're-fit' or 'Pospone'.......The 'End Patrol' icon is greyed out!
Has anybody any idea how I should end said patrol????#
Thanks in advance.

Check your radio messages, your homebase might have moved, though sometimes they don't tell you, it's a known issue.

Nope, have checked all messages, nothing to point to my homebase having moved.
Also, checked on the map and Brisbane is still showing as an Allied base, this is where I sailed from.
So does it mean that I will not be able to finish this patrol and should re-start said patrol, or do I just have to visit every allied base on the map until I am allowed to dock and finish the patrol?
Cheers................:damn:

Thanks in advance. You would have got a message that your base has changed ,and it would have told you what is your new base . Look through your old messages .

Sometimes they neglect to pass on this 'trivial' piece of information.
More about that and how to find your current base here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=113040&highlight=trick+home+port
