I just upgraded to 1.3 and finished (well I got bombed...) my first career patrol. Basically the most exciting thing that happened was a few seconds of explosions from a bombs dropped by an airplane which sunk me. The whole rest of the patrol I was combing the pacific arouond marshall islands and found nothing even after expending my fuel supply and getting a re-fuel at midway. When I played 1.2 I found more contacts and was able to sink something...now all I get on the map are friendly contacts and all I run into are american ships. Am I unlucky or does anyone else notive this? Is there a mod to re-vamp the campaign layers so it isn't so boring? thanks..

Thats why I have yet to start a campaign. I am waiting for the layers
to be completely revamped to a more historical setting. I think Tater is working
along those lines. When he is finished with it and it is installed, only then will
I venture forth with my first campaign....

I've been playing the current installment of tater's campaign and find it to be very good. I've read that patrols in the marshalls are a waste of time because the original campaign doesn't route shipping there  . Tater's campaign has been challenging--gives me the feel of "hunting". He has dropped the instances of cmap contact reports (which I like) and makes me think about patrolling choke points. And his convoys and task groups zig-zag, have many speed settings and can even change speeds on different legs of the zig-zag.

Very Challenging and Very Good! Best fun I've had yet in SH4.

Cheers!

ok thanks peto i have downloaded his campaign mod already and plan on using it now. It is still beta apparently i guess? I assume there aren't any detrimental bugs in it...i'll give it a try,

The stock game has no traffic in the Marshalls, so yeah, pretty boring (well, a little maybe almost to the Carolines).

Right now there are no major bugs that I know of, but after early 1943 it is basically the stock campaign with the ships zig-zagging. I'm working on the 43/44 convoys (43a layers) right now. It's taking a while since I actually want larger convoys to pop up, and I also want the traffic to stop when stuff falls into US hands, or when certainplaces are isolated (Truk, etc).

There will also be more contact reports for groups that pass through areas with more recon as a possibility.

sounds good tater thanks for your work. I think your mod will solve my hunting blues for the moment.

The only known issue with mine relates to somethign I did to make reefs. I made them with sub nets.

So a couple things:

1. Those shallow water areas near Atolls? Don't drive through them, several (perhaps all at some point) have reefs now. Ramming them at cruising spped will make your boat sad. :)

2. When you get near them (inside ~20nm) you will sometimes hear a horrible screeching noise. Like the life rafts x1000. Keep your volume low. The noise is the sub nets, and it carries FAR. No idea why, and it happens seemingly randomly.

The Dynamic Campaign is what has kept me playing SH3 and SH4 steady these past two years. GWX did the trick with SH3, I am sure modders such as tater will do the same for SH4 :yep:

I believe i know the horrible sound you speak of. SH3 had the same thing and GWX 1.03 or 1.02 fixed it I believe...maybe the GWX team can tell you how they did it. It happened at the start of career missions in port...and after I installed a version of GWX it never happened again.
