Radar Help for the newbie!!

Hi, from the "newbie" remark you should know i'm new to this game. I have read a few helpful tutorial from this forum but they don't seem to help my problem, and since this forum doesn't have a search function I can only start a new topic....

Anyway, My problem is that the radar on the sub simply will not turn on:

As you can see, no response on the radar screen, I'm above water (at 15ft), there are ships around me, this pic was taken during the first sub-school level and the radar on/off button on the panels don't work.

Any help will be appreciated :D

ps. (unrelated topic) the video tut from Legions was very helpful, it won't work without radar though!!:cry:

Radar is not enabled in the default training videos, though the stations are always present.

Also, I can tell from your pic you are running a pre-1.3 version of the game. If you want the radar to work properly (when fitted on to your boat), you need to update the game to 1.3. It fixes a lot of problems that were present with the radar in older versions of the game.

I'm confused though, in training mission 4 it specifically says to use the radar to find the enemy but the radar is unavailable....?

But just making sure, I wasn't able to use the radar in the first career mission (patroling) either so does it mean radars are not fitted in that as well?

I'll get the 1.3 patch when my connection speeds up again in the off-peak period

Yes, the text for that mission is confusing. None of the training missions have radar enabled, so just ignore anything it says about using radar.

There are two reasons why you couldn't use radar in your first career mission: (1) you have no radar sets fitted to your boat, or (2) you only have the SD air-search radar installed. SD radar is an AI-only radar set, so you have no control over its use. To check to see what radar sets you have installed before going out on patrol, click on the submarine model in the main campaign screen (the highlighted text will say "Subsystems'). The following screen will then tell you what radar sets you have installed and which ones are available for acquisition.
