View Full Version : Time spent in port

I would be interested to learn how long my fellow Kaleuns who use SH3 Commander spend in port between patrols. For example, do you let the sim decide how long you spend in port or do you use Commander to change this value. I would also be interested to know if the sim varies the length of stay in port or is it set to a specific value, for example 4 weeks. Before I installed Commander I never really took much notice of how long I was in port between patrols.
Thanks.

If you don't use that option in SH3 Cmdr, you will always spend 28 days in port, which is very realistic, but certainly you will miss a lot of action going on... ;)

and that's 28 days + repairs. so if you took 50% or more hull damage it may be close to 55-65 days :(

Thanks for the replies. From what you have said that sounds quite realistic so perhaps I'll leave it to the sim to decide how long I should stay in port and only call upon Commander to change the length of stay at resupply ships etc.

You are right, I forgot to mention it, and 1 more thing: if you make upgrades to you sub, then more days to spend at the bar or at Consuela's house with the girls... :rotfl:

It depends, I play around with it a little bit. Anywhere from 2 weeks to 42 days on the high end. If I'm coming out of port and get badly damaged early on I'll turn around and take a two week rest. If I'm in the Carib and just hit Escape to warp back to port I'll take a 42 day rest, figuring that "extra" time was really me sailing back to port.
Mostly I pick around 28 though, especially when fighting in the Atlantic.

And I'm too lazy to decide that by myself.

As a supplementary question, if you dock at a resupply ship or milk cow does Commander automatically recognise this and set your stay to one day? I am rather confused on this issue as the documentation says:
"Ability to recognise when docked at a milk cow or other friendly base and automatically adjust the number of days spent in base to 1*;
SH3 Commander automatically recognises if you are docked at your home base or not. If you are not docked at your home base (ie docked at a Milk Cow), SH3 Commander will change the number of days spent in base to 1 without you needing to manually change via the SH3 Options screen. You can click on the label to toggle status. *Note that extra days will be added if damage needs to be repaired."
If anyone could clarify this it would be much appreciated.

Yes CN, if you dock at a milkcow or a base not your homebase, you will spend there 1 day, but only if no repairs needed for your sub. If you need repairs, well, the time you spend there will be longer. :yep:

I set Commander to the variable option. I've spent a whole month in port, but once in a type II it turned me around in 5 days.

I think that's the best option...:up:
