I was thinking has anyone ever made it to 1945? The closeest I've ever made it was till '44 and was sunk right outside Dover, and this was stock SH3. Who far has your career lasted to(in any mod or stock SH3)?

I made it from '39 to late '43 in van...er... unmodified SHIII.
I haven't made it past early 1942 in GWX yet.

Longest career was Kaptl. Josef Steinadler. 1939 - 1944. I forget the U# but it was of the U-flak type conning tower and the boat was lost to air attack while crash diving to evade 4 bombers off of Cape Town South Africa some time in March of 1944. (GWX 100% realism)
Best career was about 6 months shorter and only perhaps 60K tons difference (GWX 100%)
Just lost one -- 28 Sept 42. GWX 18 patrols.

Made it to early '44 once at 86% realism but I quit out of frustration and reverted to the happier times of 1940. Couldnt get any enjoyment out of the continous dive and surface routine that accompanies Allied air supremacy. Should have stuck with that career though cos I've never made it that far again:hmm:

Working on my 18th or 19th patrol in late 1941 (October I believe) In U-96. Yes I know I don't stay out that long...*shrugs* it's getting dangerous out there...and I've got about...300,000+ tonnes on that one and got all the medals before april of 41.
All merchs and small warships. Haven't sunk any of the big ones yet.
Only five long patrols thus far. Yeah, I know that's not too great but remember. You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do starting a career in '39 and making it to 45. Can it be done? I have not heard or read about one Kaleun being so lucky.
This game is very similar to a poker tournament. You need Lot's O'Luck getting to the final table and making it all the way through 45.
Good luck!!!

i`ve read about a kaleun on the type 2`s making it to 45 safe and sound 3 times in a row.
it has to do with the fact that it is a coastal sub i guess.

1940-194?,still going,I'm not far off being offered a TypeXXI(please god please;):shifty:)if I can just keep it together, but as mentioned by Foghladh_mhara its a pain in the ass all the diving and with all the aircover going on,its started to become tedious. But I'm determined to see it through to the bitter end, wish me luck;)I'm going to need it:yep:

I made it to about two weeks from when Germany surrendered but got sent to the bottom by a special delivery curtosy of the Royal Air Force :dead:, was a sitting duck after my diesels had been destroyed by some intense depth charging, the DD didn't like kindly for me killing the biggest ship in the convoy, '45 is absolute hell...if you want to survive don't expect to be getting mega tonnage like in 39/40 - 43

Longest career in stock SH3 is from 39 til late 42, having sunk a total of 210,00 tons of shipping . Still going strong with GWX (for the moment), just got to 1941.

Yeah, I just read in the Type II thread that someone made it to 45 in GWX two times. First time I read someone making it all the way. Hmmm..I may have to divorce my IX soon and give that one a drive. :0

I love the XXI, but its like driving an Akula lol its too easy at times to kill loads of stuff off even in the later years of the war. For historical accuracy unless I've had an EXTREMELY successful career (in which the Fuhrur might assign me to one of these new boats) I will stick will a fully kitted out VIIC/42 or an IXC or whatever.

My longest career lasted from 1939 to some weeks before 1943 when my good old IXB was blasted to death by depth charges from two determined destroyers.:x
This time I'll try to survive a bit longer in a VIIC (even though my last VIIC career ended in august 42).;)

GWX Mod:
1939-1945 (made it to the end of the war); full realism; Kapitan zur see Heinrich Koch
Regular SH3:
1939-1943
Engaged American and British battleships after realising the hopelessness of my situation (severe flooding and damage after taking hits from a depth charge attack). I surfaced and shot my remaining torpedoes off. All hit a target. Engaged with a deck gun and AA gun. Decimated by King George's big guns and Iowa's big guns. Sank quickly, died in my beloved U-Boat. Kapitain zur see Manfred Haderlitz.

It was a very long time ago, and way before the "uber" mods such as IUB and RUB were even thought about - way before the concept of GW and GWX! I was playing with vanilla SH3 and I managed to get to about 35 patrols in, can't remember the year, probably 1943 or '44. Back then I always started at the start of the war, it was even before I started using SH3 Commander too. Anyway, what I do remember is that the load and save game feature had problems after so many patrols and I used to get the dreaded CTD. Therefore I used to start all over again. I have started so many new careers and never gone far with them - in fact I may have started more new careers than I've had hot dinners ;)

Only one career has lasted all the way, from outbreak of war to the end, and that was U-77. She was an type VIIC U-Flak at the end and I sailed her home to Willhemshaven after receiving Doenitz order to give up.
Started in vanilla and ended in an heavily modded version of the game.

That Type II guy in GWX was me.
And yes, I've done it now FOUR times (when I posted in the thread originally it was only 2 times). The trick is where you do your hunting. For the Type II, especially the Type IID, the dive time is the thing that's saved my *** so many times I've lost count.
But, if I remember, my trick for my first two careers was to move ASAP to the Black Sea and the Flotilla that operated there.
Since then, I've also gotten another two careers that lasted the entire war. One was completely done in a VII, the other started in a II before moving to a XI, then a VII around 42.
I guess you have to be lucky, but also take VERY VERY VERY few risks. I rarely do anything aggressive if I'm not 100% sure that I can survive the consequences.

NEVER SURRENDER! Download trainers for unlimited ammo, fuel, batteries, whatever you may need! FIGHT FOREVER! Give the Allied scum HELL! Hey, if that fails, sail to Japan. War's still on there.:rotfl: :lurk:
wonder if it would be possible to extend the campaign to 1946 and so on:hmm:
that would be awesome

If I remember this right, you can keep going to May 30, 23:59 -45 and then the game will CTD.
No one will shoot back at you but you will not get any renown for what you sink after the wars end.

awww
it would have been fun to sink the english ships up untill 2007 :rotfl:

I guess I'm the exception but I retire my captains (if still alive) after 8-10 patrols or so. I also don't particularly enjoy starting in 39 and rarely do. Too easy (boring) and no fun torpedo & sub upgrades to play with.
Very few captains started in 39. In fact I would guess the majority started in 42 or later. Might as well play it like it was.
Fired the first eel of war in 39 and got retired in late 41, after 15 patrols BdU directed me to show some old tricks to those poor kids.
Arctic campaign in 42 ended up during 3rd patrol... sunk by a plane.
Current 3rd campaign in summer 43, 2nd patrol, crawling underwater, taking beating from the planes all the time, heading slowly home with 10k, maybe we'll find a convoy afterall...
(those are campaigns from GWX and my recent attempt of the game)
