Please Help The Newbie!

Could someone give a step-by-step guide on how attacking convoys work?!

I hear all these people talking about doing all this crazy stuff with next to full realism, and I can't even do the attack a convoy tutorial using zero realism!

One is probably because how crappy the "tutorials" are.

Two is I don't know what.

I go along the set route, go slow, and those ships STILL find me and bomb the crap out of me!

I hit it with to torpedoes (the destroyer) which didn't faze it, and got no further, because I quit.

Unless someone who is so good can give me some VERY GOOD tips (like a step-by-step thing) I may just have to give it up :( (Even though I love the game and detail :() because the fact is; I just can't get it even with the horrible help in-game.

Please help the Newbie all you god-like players (that's not sarcasm either)

Or just go on and say I suck horribly and that I should just sell the game and slap myself for not getting it good.

The video DID help, I learned about what to do with all the tools.

But I was really having problems with attacking convoys (even the tutorial one) and the video had a small bit about that, but not enough to help any :(

All of us here were newbies at first but alot of us have been playing the
Silent Hunter series starting with #1. You will read many stories about
what others did here at the forums but your own experience is going to
be the best teacher. I would suggest getting a simple mission consisting
of 4 merchants & 2 DD escorts. (do this with the editor) Then start by
doing this mission over & over till you find all the mistakes and finally make
a successful attack (sink merchants) and avoid the escorts while you slip
away. You don't need to sink all the merchants and you don't have to try
to sink any escorts unless you think you are experienced enought. Playing
this game many times will give you the knowhow to accomplish tasks. Sure,
at first you will be sunk many times but as you keep playing, it will soon turn
around in your favor.
