There is an online manual to the real submarines, The Fleet Type Submarine, Navpers 16160, published just after WWII at http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub . There is much more there than meets the eye. I was captivated for about an hour reading the specific instructions for the sonar operator. I think I learned some things that will apply to Silent Hunter. :know:

This is a collection of online manuals including:
1. The Fleet Type Submarine NavPers 16160
2. Submarine Main Propulsion Diesels (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/diesel/index.htm) NavPers 16161
3. Submarine Electrical Installations (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/elect/index.htm) NavPers 16162
4. Submarine Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/refrig/index.htm) NavPers 16163
5. Submarine Distilling Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/still/index.htm) Navpers 16163A
6. Submarine Air Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/air/index.htm) NavPers 16164
7. Submarine Periscope Manual (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/pscope/index.htm) NavPers 16165
8. Submarine Trim and Drain Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/trim/index.htm) NavPers 16166
9. Submarine Sonar Operator's Manual (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/sonar/index.htm) NavPers 16167
10. Submarine Underwater Log Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/log/index.htm) NavPers 16168
11. Submarine Hydraulic Systems (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/hydr/index.htm) NavPers 16169
12. Torpedo Tubes, 21-Inch submerged, Mks 32 to 39 (http://www.maritime.org/fleetsub/tubes/index.htm) O.P. 1085

Hey look! Links to all the individual manuals. I'm accidentally very good there! (lost the table format though, dock me some renown for that) edit: Fixed the table, I want my renown back! The first link in my post is the first item on the list. See ya! I have to spend some serious time in the periscope manual!

Moderators, you might want to sticky this one! This is one great link.

I see a need for a sticky because some of us have known about the site for a year or more, but a lot obviously don't.

On the other hand, I see no need for a sticky because someone rediscovers it at least once a month, and it's always being referred to.

Of course, what I see or don't see is irrelevant.:dead:

I've looked at those links before and there's good info in them.

What we need is a better game manual. Damage Control is confuseing at best. Battle Station crew Zzzz. Flak gunners that won't fire. These are fresh high rated gunners who no matter what you order , short range, medium or closeing target they won't fire. What's up with that ?

These two and some few other things need to be in a manual update from UBI or some knowledgeable members for us less knowing members. :D

I did a search and saw three different answers to damage control question. Makes me wonder ????? :hmm:

I agree, the DC is confusing. what do the different shades; ie: red/pink mean when the men light up? Still trying to figure that one out.

Although, this is the first time I have seen those links...awesome information....Thanks!
