View Full Version : So, I was sitting at work...

...and I had a fun little moment of 'wow, it really does work'. I had nothing to do, really--no customers around, finished the book I was reading--and I chanced to turn off the fan in the back, on account of the cage was coming loose from the motor casing and rattling. It was a Black and Decker fan with patented Silent Force technology (so the label said), and as it began to spin down, lo and behold the tips of the fan were swept forward a la the screw on the Type 212a.

Now, of course, my curiosity was piqued. I spent the next fifteen minutes or so playing with this fan and the other one (of a more traditional design) across the room, and the foreswept tips really do make a significant difference in noise.

Ta-da. A submarine anecdote in the most unlikely place. :P

I only experience that once in a great while when I suddenly come out of a deep sleep bu can't move my arms or legs 'cuz they're not "awake" yet.
