So i had an idea come to me while i was watching a show on US MARINE snipers during the Viet-Nam War. They talked about how a two man Sniper team would be deployed to a location and would sometimes wait for 2 weeks until there target arrived. They would barely move, they never talked, they were silent. Then the show talked about how a single sniper had to evade the enemy for more then 2 months, and how he had to lay perfectly still until the perfect shot arrived.

Now is there a way we could do this in SH3? Like a few days before the USA enters the war, a sub sneak into NYC harbor or to Norfolk, Va and wait one or two days, laying on the harbor floor, silent. Then once the US is an official enemy of GErmany, attack the harbor? Would that work? What do u think about this crazy idea???

well here is the thing.

though the entry of the US into the war was a likleyhood i dont thing the Germans anticipated Pearl Harbor occuring... the German war declaration was a result of that attack so sending a U-boat on a long voyage to NYC would no doubt require advanced knowlege that the pearl harbor raid would take place and that Germany would declare war on the U.S. at a specific date.

I have used this tactic on a British port before. I had infinite fuel on at the time shortly after Grey wolves came out. Departed port and rished to Bristol or somewhere (i dont recall where) rushed in on the surface and nobody even batted an eye lash. i reveresed into a berth and submerged just hours before the war started. when the British map cities went to red i commenced my attack and sank a medium cargo, a large tanker, a cruiser and a couple of destroyers. because i was surrounded on the port, starboard and stern by concrete there was really no way they could attack me. when the action settled i rushed out to deep water.

Not very realistic IMO :nope: ....mainly because it didn't happen, not withstanding the limited time you can spend submerged and the fact you couldn't receive radio messages whilst sitting on the bottom :hmm:

I tried it this on my first patrol, in 1939, and i forgot that the UK declared war on Germany on sep. 3rd, i forgot and thought the 4th, so there i was full steam ahead towards Scapa Flow, im about 20 kms away from the outer islands of Scapa Flow and i get the message that the UK is our enemy, i was like #$%@, about 10 minutes later two Hurricanes attack me, so i got out of there real fast, hahaha

ya it will work. I just started a 1939 campaigne 2 days before britain and france entered. I went to portsmouth surfaced without problems. When there i went to periscope depth and picked out targets. On september 3 i used all torpedoes and everything was destroyed. Made it out fine but making it out of english chanel...well thats a diferent story.

I LOVE the idea. Forget realism. I heard Japan sent a letter to Donitz telling him about Pearl Harbour. I am in April 41 right now in my IXB. Come November I am going to New York! I play SH3 for fun stuff like this. Life is realistic enough, I will keep my vids fun ;)

Hey if anyone if going to do this, could u keep track of wat you see in the ports, like what cargo ships are there, what kind of defenses r there, gather some intel for the rest of us.
