View Full Version : help fps is weird
unnistalled all mods ...
installed 1.3 patch in to out of the box SH4
enabled compatible mods like ... remove grainy effect
my fps keeps jumping from small values like 4 , 5 or 6 to values from 40 to 100
i disabled all ... i mean everything is set to minimum and it stutters like crazy
in particular the ships and submarine wakes seem to jump back and forth they dont stant still or flow like they used to . what is pissing me of is that i used to being able to run the game with all maximum settings
nvidia settings are set to " application controled "
drivers are last version 94.24
2048 ram
geforce 7300 gt 512mb

You have posted this on several threads now.
I have a similar computer but my video card is an ATI. Version 1.3 runs about the same as version 1.2 on it.
...........when all else fails, I reinstall.

I just did a quick mission from a fresh install and got the same result. I was playing the battle of midway and I was forcing the ships to shoot at me however, so the fact an entire fleet was trying to kill me might have something to do with it.

I may be off on this one, but while experimenting to find the problem with my Traffic Reduction Mod with 1.3, I noticed that in general, (campaign only I guess) more CPU time is being eaten by what I can only guess is the AI, since it has been upgraded quite a bit. That would be my guess. Smarter AI does tend to always slow down a game.

I've had a drop in FPS too. From 15-25 ingame with 1.02 to a steady 6 FPS with 1.03, all special effects off and no other ship in sight.

Very important:
The drop of FPS is a known behaviour of SH4 3D engine. It happends because the rendering of the water is too complex for the video card and, periodically (like every 20-30 frames), it runs out of memory buffers. The buffers are then flushed and it starts with a clean cache.
The only solution is to lower the quality options that affect the rendering of the water.
PS: this never happends on very powerful video cards because they can handle the water even at the greatest quality.

No, it is the early jace11 fix. Prevents the ' flying subs ". Until Trigger 1.3 gets here, I am using this.

As far as I know there is no definative "compatible" mods... at least not yet.
For now its use at your own risk.
I was thinking that would be a good project to put together a 'list' of which mods work with 1.3. Or for that matter which ones cause problems.
I patched up (after removing all mods) and went out on patrol to ensure stability. Everything was fine except the battery life in my gato was absurd. Pretty sure they could get more than 8 hours out of the batteries. I had not as yet applied the realistic battery mod yet.

I had to scrap my career from '41 to '43. It was simply too damaged by the various bugs. Not happy.
Since (cleanly) installing 1.3 I've had this EXACT same issue.
It doesn't matter what settings you have, you could be running it at 640x480 with nothing turned on and it'd still go at around 2 fps.
It seems to have something to do with the wakes/boats.. If I look out into the empty sea, I get 100 fps.
As soon as I turn the camera around to look at one measely little warship, the game stutters so violently I have to hammer the ESC key at least 10 times before it responds (and then do battle with the laggy mouse).
NOOOOOOOOO, basically :( WTF!
I had a similar experince when trying out a beta driver today. At 1280x1024 it went fine with everything maxed out (but the damned stutters were back, despite 70-100 fps with 8x AA), but when I set resolution to 1600x1200 I got 2-6fps. What the ...?
Switched back to the latest official driver, and the stutters were gone (70-120 fps).
Core2Duo 2,4ghz
2048mb DDR2 ram
8800 GTS
All in all, 1.3 is pretty much the same as 1.2 for me, I would try a different driver if there are problems.
