Is this the official final release 1.3 patch or a beta? The ubisoft website does not yet show 1.3 as being available so I am rather confused, (it doesn't take much).:hmm:

thx m8 downloading now, only 8 minutes to wait til 1.3 :D
From the readme:
GAMEPLAY CHANGES:
1. All Sensors have been tuned for a more realistic performance
2. All ship gunners now improve the precision of their shooting in time
3. Small, irrelevant, units don't show up on the map or clutter the sensors
4. The radar and hydrophone won't detect units that don't have a signature of that kind (sampans, rowboats, etc)
5. New orders received by the player are presented through a radio message pop-up.
NEW FEATURES:
1. Radar and Sonar interfaces and functionality have been improved. Now buttons move when clicked and the scroll wheel can be used to train the sensor in the desired direction. Additionally, one can directly click on the bearing indicator, respectively PPI screen, to obtain the same effect.
2. Friendly pilots shot down will pop up red smoke to signal their position to the player
3. Improved orders panel
4. Colorado class battleships have been added to the game
5. The player can now request a speed estimate on a target as long as he has recently sent at least two range+bearing data sets. Keep in mind that the estimate needs to be sent to the TDC to be taken into account for the shot.
6. The recognition manual now remembers the last page it was opened at, and will default to the Japanese roster
BUGFIXES:
1. Solved a bug that lead to target range estimation errors when playing in Imperial measurement system
2. Corrected the wrong orientation of sounds in the submarine interior
3. The radar now detects targets to the north, south and generally any other direction, according to the historical performance, of course.
5. Solved a few bugs related to the AI Group commander
6. Various ships have had firing arcs limitations corrected
7. Various ships have had engine HP values corrected, thanks to some great research by Nematode!
8. Some problems with the sound engine have been solved
9. Various user interface enhancements / bugfixes
10. Parachutes animations run correctly now.
11. Torpedoes fired by the player now show up on the map even after crossing the International Date change Line
12. All menus display correctly on widescreen resolutions
13. Periscope zoom has been set to the historical value.
14. Submarine's batteries no longer recharge when no fuel is available.
15. All ship dimensions are now correct and will no longer lead to targeting errors. Keep in mind that torpedoes may still run too deep, as it is correct historically.
16. Clemson class destroyers are no longer crewed by Japanese sailors
17. AI units will now take notice of nearby ships being destroyed even when there is not a trace of the attacker
And we are off, who is going to be the first to complain. :rotfl: :rotfl:
15 Minutes to down load :ping:  :ping:

Yes! Finally the radar works and they've fixed the 'white lines around the outskirts of your ship whilst under water (and with AA) bug'
It shows 210 MB.
wasn't the leaked one under 200 or something?

Anything that is not officially been endorsed by a company as the final product, is not the final product.
Believe me, this file contains some last moment (small?) changes. I'd install this patch and remove the Beta 1.3.
You don't honestly believe that any UBI dev would let us wait for several days or longer when they had the finished product, do you?

Still though, that is a difference, is it not? 4 kb is enough for lots of changes to text files.
Either way, who cares anymore? It's out!
Terrapin, while you are here, can you please remove my mod v2 multistation from UBRS (it's in your sh4 radio mods section)? I did not upload it there. Plus that is an old version with bugs that will cause CTD's.

I believe the read me says it will install over any version. I think it's an all inclusive patch, meaning it contains all previous patches. it will simply overwrite the previous ones. you should be fine.

Wrong about what? So far everything points to it being the same patch that has been floating around for several days now. No big deal really, the developers and ubi aren't going to rush on anyone's account for something that isn't going to generate any income.
It's business, no politics, no conspiracy by ubi to somehow screw the devteam either now or anytime in the past. Business pure and simple.

It would be nice if UBI has indeed dropped SH that the source be made availible "somehow"
Anyways, even if UBI does drop SH thats not the end of the world at all, depending on who owns the rights to the game would depend if the devs can release a sequal with another publisher or not, so all is NOT lost - yet.
Even if UBI own all the intelectual rights it still does not stop the devs from creating another Uboat sim, sure the main source has to change but thats all, everything the learnt with these past few titles may end meaning an even better source engine for the next one :arrgh!:

Anyways, even if UBI does drop SH thats not the end of the world at all, depending on who owns the rights to the game would depend if the devs can release a sequal with another publisher or not, so all is NOT lost - yet.
Even if UBI own all the intelectual rights it still does not stop the devs from creating another Uboat sim, sure the main source has to change but thats all, everything the learnt with these past few titles may end meaning an even better source engine for the next one :arrgh!:
The Devs and Ubisoft are one and the same. It was/is an in-house project and Ubisoft owns the rights.
I would however like someone to point me to anything official that says the project has been/is being abandonned.

just a few things, i guess i got the unnoficial patch as i dont need the cd.
however it still triggers copy protection if you dont have the cd in. it just wont tell you till your game degrades :)
had a nice test run, instantly got annoyed by the ussual, surfaced 5:30 A/C spotted 5:31..
and here is the cool thing, you still cant see through the damned conning tower to shoot at them.
never mind. i found a task force, engaged, and took out a Fuso. then got utterly raped by the Japs, seems they arent stupid anymore, never the less i somehow survived and evaded with a very knackered sub. after 30 minutes of staring at the damage controll screen i finally gave up, cant steer no idea why. mission ruined. i saved a replay, went to watch it with externals, i had no rudder, but no way of knowing this when playing in full real.
bit of a pain, so another career mission scrapped without knowing why at the time, till i saw my replay.
speed calculations work fine, all else seems to work fine.
just the AAA is utterly without use because you cant flaming see, i hoped they would fix that.
also still seem to be getting radar contacts, tho i dont have radar on my boat. dont qoute me on that though, it could have been aircraft i was picking up.

I'd find it pretty bad if you could shoot an anti aircraft gun through your conning tower. They fixed the binocs so it simulates you walking to the other side but the gun is mounted and does not have that option. If an aircraft attacks on your blind side then maneuver.
And to all those people whinning about the beta patch being the same as the official... What you couldn't find anything better to complain about? You have no idea how lame you all sound. The patch is out enjoy it damn it!

you seem to missunderstand i think, i dont want to shoot through the conning tower, when i point my gun up at the sky, i see that armour that laps around the outside of the AAA gun, not sure what t is called.
i cant see my gunsight, in other words, my guy leans back, like a ghost through the outskirt of the conning tower, the actual gun barrel is clear of the ship. it can fire without a problem,if i was closer to it then i could see fine, but i "drift" away from the gun, and the conning tower/armour pops up between me and my gunsight, at exactly the angle most planes come in at.
making me blind. and this thing doesnt exactly move around at speed :) i wouldnt even be shooting my AAA if the darned thing had submerged in time.
and it isnt a blind spot, you man the aa gun,. you look up,. the side of the sub, below and behind you, flies into the air to get in your way.
ill grab a screenie next time im on.
I hope this isn't the same patch.
I did 2 missions night before last to check it out (Gar and Gato). While I was greatly pleased to see that the Christmas Tree and dive plane indicators were fixed, I was distressed to see that the 3D scopes no longer went up and down while in the conning tower view. I chalked it up to being a beta patch, and perhaps they were tinkering with it (funny how one rationalizes these things  ). I have to say overall I was pretty pleased, but I hope there are no silly little things (that can add up to a lot) left behind.
Well my d/l is finished (10mins 40sec, not bad); guess it's time to check it out

indeed the fault is clipping :) what that stuff around the outside is called is what i didnt know lol
Skirting apparantly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eufdn24eT5w
someone already put this up. but you will see what i mean, you should be able to see where your aiming , but cant.
its not a problem most of the time because i dive to avoid planes, but given the stupid number of them sometimes i have to fight. and when i have to fight, they all to often come in at the blind spot that shouldnt be a blind spot.
anyways didnt mean to get sidetracked, just clearing up what i meant.
only other funny thing ive noticed is the destoyers still sinking themselves at times with depth charges.
but that said i didnt have time to stay and laugh, they do theyre jobs now. makes things a bit nerve wracking, at last, i used to sail into task forces at full speed and sink them with ease.
now i got one Fuso at 3K range, and then got chased all over the place for hours.
no catching up and sinking another ship anymore :) make the game much more rewarding.

I have a big problem after installing the patch.Left Pearl for my next patrol and after few hundreds of miles on my way to Carolina Islands I was kicked to desktop.Happened several times and always on the same spot so I tried to choose another way and it was just the same again so it kicks me out of the game on the same vertical line I would say.Does not matter whether I go west, south west, north west etc.It kick me out of the game somewhere around Johnston Atoll.Try to imagine you make a vertical line across the area of Johnston Atoll,as I get there-finished,black screen for a few seconds, then error message concerning Sound ACT and SH Sound ACT files and that's it.Already reinstalled the game and it's the same. Can someone help me please?
Most likely a driver problem with your sound card.... unless you have some sound mods installed.

The air search radar set is not modeled as a mannable station. It's not bunk at all.

The first radar you will get in late 42 is an air search only radar whose station is not "mannable" in the game. Only the AI can use it.
You will see the results when on patrol. You will start getting air radar contacts at about 20 miles out. The icon used is a grey version of the ship icon, but trust me, it is a plane and it is coming soon to an ocean near you!
Later on you will get upgrades that you can actually man.

So has it been confirmed that not using the DVD is okay?? Should I continue to put my DVD in the drive after 1.3 or can I play without it and not have fear of the copy protection kicking in at some point?
I wish they would have done something about playing in windows mode and the limitation of 1024x768 resolution. It must be related to there quick fix to higher resolution support and the AA fix. Gee how they ran in circles trying to make this game work.

Gee how they ran in circles trying to make this game work.
I think they did a hell of a job getting it to work in the patches based upon the original tight and super compressed development schedule they worked under. Blame Ubi, not the developers!
That was my impression, not whacking on the dev’s. The running in circles was in my mind them franticly trying in desperation to make a feature work for us before the plug was pulled.
Yet I failed to express that.

1. Radio Messages still do not work.
2. You can name all units but their name does not show when they are sunk.
3. There is no individual tonnage displayed on the result/kia board
4. When the game is over ( ie when you leave the server ) you are shown as killed in action even if your sub as NO damage whatsoever !
5. There is still no repair crew automatically allocated to their station

Impossible. THE PATCH will come within an hour.
This version is the same as the beta patch. 12.0.0.49985
The patch will have version 13...
The downloads from two days ago(right) and today from the link on top of this topic ARE DIFFERENT in size!

Oddly enough, I visited http://silenthunter4.uk.ubi.com/ to d/l the patch only an hour or so ago.
The version from UbiSoft contains the signature whereas the version from the Internode link does not contain the signature.
It's interesting that the "official" releases differ, albeit not in actual content by the looks of things (the version numbers are the same).

You can apply it any way you like. It is a cumulative patch so it should just overwrite anything that is already there.
The way I can guarantee will work is uninstall your mods, uninstall sh4, defrag, install Sh4 and then patch to 1.03.
Then hang on to your mods until they are certified 1.03 compatible.
But be aware that, if you continue a save game, there may be some residual issues from before the patch, but nothing big. IF you want to be sure of total 1.03 goodness... get rid of everything when you uninstall, and then start a new campaign from scratch.

Allo U48,
For some reason between sh3 and sh4 and I still can't figure this out one (sh3) will show on the kill board individual ship names and tonnage and I can't see how they forgot to include that in sh4....
I agree to all 5 of your concerns in sh4 that should have been addressed especially when members here/or at http://subclub.info/phpBB_subclub/ that play either fun or monthly multiplayer stats. The dev team could have figured that out by just looking at sh3 and include it with sh4 (individual ship names and tonnage) on the killboard.
It appears that mission writers at wpl/egl will have to look at the mission editor to figure out what the ship names are and their tonnage.
Here's a clip of the Battle Results Page for sh4 http://http://www.subclub.info/wpl/stat/sh4/stat_brief_sh4.php
Oh well 1.3 is out and I guess we have to live with it... No Biggie but a Big Sadie! for us at the Wolfpack League.

The verbal acknowledgement for rudder amidships is still not there...it is a minor thing but it would be nice to have had, to at least give the illusion that the game was finished before releasing it. Also, there are still no map notes...am I wrong? again a little thing, but for me it would have been incredibly useful and for those who do a lot of work on the navmap..plotting and such.
Other little things...I still don't hear hatches opening and shutting which some have said they hear...i can live without that though. Big disappointment for me is the change (why change?!?!) of the animations in the conning tower...the periscopes you can no longer see going up and down which was a nice touch when it worked. The green board in the conning tower still flashes and flutters, which is just a little graphic but looks very curious and disturbing when in the conning tower (someone posted something saying this was fixed...do others see this?).
All I can think of so far....oh except the battery recharge rate; does anyone notice if it is better or more realistic? My battery seems to drain faster than I remember it did with the realistic battery mod, but maybe it's just my imagination. Did they tweak the battery charge rates in this patch..I remember reading about it not recharging when out of fuel but that's it.
Haven't had any encounters with convoys and escoprts yet...since that was addressed in the readme, I assume the AI will be improved. glad the patch came out...wish the game wasn't so incomplete to begin with, but whatever.

Still have the fluttering lights, myself, and yeah, the periscope animations no longer work.
I don't know if this has been posted (I couldn't find it), but the Colorado class BB is appearing with a plain black hull in my museum.:o No other ship is affected though, and her crew and weaponry are textured normally. I wonder what would cause this, and is anyone else affected?:-?
BTW - It's interesting how the damaged versions in PH that I saw in those screenshots were the original version of the class without the aft cage mast cut down, but the version in the campaign is the modernized version (the Maryland and Colorado profile, not the heavily modernized West Virginia). Nice to see those two variants applied in the proper roles. Also, I guess the New Mexico class was the best available fill in for the Nevada and Pennsylvania classes in Pearl Harbour.

I have noticed that when submerged, no CO2 is produced, according to the gauge.
My diesel engines were destroyed in an attack, so I had to travel from Japan back to Pearl Harbour submerged all the way - I'm obviously not running with real batteries, it's the easy life for me to start with!:smug:
Happy Trails!

I have a number of complaints.
1) My camera locks up when I try to view the inside of my own eyeball.
2) I can no longer launch hamsters from the forward tubes as decoys.
3) The ship's cat is now bald and sings Italian opera incessantly, whether the radio is on or off.
4) The ship's mess is completely out of hardtack.
...
1) Update your video drivers.
2) Update your video drivers
3) Update your video and sound drivers
4) They were all out at the base. Try the scones instead.

Oh, wait, I haven't installed the patch yet... -
ROTFL
I love it.
I had the same problem with the beta 1.3,after I uninstalled then reinstalled with the official 1.3 the Colorado bb showed up normal in the Museum.
But I didn't install or even download the Beta version.:-? I didn't have any mods installed on this installation either, and I had upgraded to 1.2 prior to installing this patch. Maybe I should re-install the game and apply the patch again.

I'm downloading it now.

Downloading it now. I noticed that the career mode fixes (repeated missions, changing home base, inadequate information, random retirements) weren't in the changelog. Does anyone know if they've been dealt with?

Well the repeating missions in the career mode are still there...
I am doing the same mission already 2 times.
That was the most annoying bug for me and it is still there....

Repeating missions always was, remains, and always will be an issue with the way people play the game, or interpert the missions, not a bug.

I concur; I am more concerned with actual bugs like forced retirement.

Not a bug either.

There seem to have been two issues with forced retirement. One centers around getting a new sub before it was historically available. This has been fixed.
The second, and far more common, has to do with the way people play the game and is not a bug, but is historically accurate.
I am on my eighth patrol, third sub and third year of the war.
