.............I dont care for. I don't know what it is. I haven't been able to put my finger on it, but Mr. Chertoff just rubs me wrong. Perhaps he is a little too slick.
I know that there is a risk of what we've seen in England, but I don't care if he has a 'gut feeling'. I want facts.

"Summertime seems to be appealing to them," he said of al-Qaida. "We do worry that they are rebuilding their activities."

Still, Chertoff said there are not enough indications of an imminent plot to raise the current threat levels nationwide. And he indicated his remarks were based on "a gut feeling" formed by past seasonal patterns of terrorist attacks, recent al-Qaida statements, and intelligence he did not disclose.

Based on a "gut feeling"? Doesn't that qualify as doing the terrorists job for them?

In a word, yes.

EDIT: That may be it. Certoff, and who ever is the head of Homeland Security, has a vested interest in doing the terrorist's job for them by emotionally elevating the risk when no real additional risk exists. Its about funding and maintaining his job. He tried this during the immigration debate also. It came off as 'I want this bill because' it will bring my department more money and more power.

Can you expand on that thought jimbuna? I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I'd like to know your thoughts on the matter.

He had the same 'gut feeling' with Katrina......DHS is also head of FEMA. Bad mix men and btw, FEMA is just as messed up now as ever. If there is ever another Katrina....we are screwed.

With all the summer talk, sounds like he's ready to join Al Gore.

Actually, I think there will be some attacks. I have a gut feeling, too. Are you scared yet, America? Look behind you! Take a different route to work tomorrow!

"Between now and November, a lot of things are going to happen, and I believe that by this time next year, the American public’s going to have a very different view of this war, and it will be because, I think, of some unfortunate events, that like we’re seeing unfold in the UK. But I think the American public’s going to have a very different view,"

The real tragedy of hurricane Katrina was the inability of people to understand the dire warnings that their elected government provided.

This is in fact true. They sat on their thumbs before asking FEMA to show up. Even then, after activation, there was mass confusion. But we must look at the big picture, there was hundreds of miles of coast line destroyed. Just were to you begin is the question the day after Katina. Well New Orleans of course.....they were the most vocal.
