Ahoy writers and scribes!

It's time for another Subsim story contest. First prize will receive $50 and all stories selected will be included in the 2008 Subsim Almanac. Authors selected will receive a free copy of the Almanac with their story printed.

So, sharpen those wits and pencils. Stories should be at least 4000 words, no maximum length. Deadline: Sept 5. Subject matter: submarine history (document sources), submarine fiction, personal accounts as a submariner (sea stories), and art are accepted. Be creative, be original, and give the reader something he will enjoy. Submit as a Word file or WordPad file to subsim@subsim.com (subsim@subsim.com) with the Subject: Here's my story, Onkel Neal!

If you submitted a story before but it was not selected, you can resubmit it. I suggest giving it a careful revision to improve it. This time I would like to include twice as many stories as we featured in the 2007 Almanac. Why not yours?

best
Neal

...then my 1WO looked at me and said "Herr Kaleun, I think I'm going to..."

When do I get my prize?

Do it 'cause you love it so much you can't stop yourself -- that's the only reason that matters, eh? :yep: (My inspiration comes from my patrols -- imagination, memory & research fill in the gaps. That's it in a nutshell.)

Onkel Neal ? Wait a minute, let me see if his hearing aid is turned on...
ONKEL NEAL ? HELLO, OLD TIMER! I think the batteries may be weak...
After submission, do we get a confirmation of reception ? I guess he heard me...
Okay, I'll wait to hear from you. Don't stay up too late.
BYE-BYE. I wish we could move him to that Home we looked at. He would be so much better off with a fulltime nurse.

*ouch* I just noticed that's 4000, not 400. and these are new glasses. sigh
Hell, I haven't had a career that's lasted four thousand words.

I have written a story, but I'm not submitting it for $50. It's 378 pages long, and hasn't been published into a book (because I'M IN IRAN, FFS).:-?

I could be wrong, some water under the bridge since then, but I seem to recall your telling me that "The Marlena Hessler Story" would be in the next Almanac. If so, that's fine, I won't resubmit it.

Great work, by the way, that Almanac. I greatly enjoyed the first one!

Cheers!
