I'm alittle surprised about not much discussion today. I thought there'd be all kinda threads. Oh well.

cool where do you get it at its not on SH4 website.

It's not an open beta test or anything of the sort. It is a leaked patch the validity of which no one is certain.

You won't find any links here or, I am guessing, at any Ubisoft site.

I'm guessing that a beta tester violated the NDA and is in deep trouble over this right now...heh

Its a giant nodvd patch , i dont need the dvd in to play with the illegally gained patch . Its not right to have the link up . My opinion anyway .

What does "officially leaked" mean?!

Hmmmm, to download or not to download, that is the question. :hmm:

Whether it is nobler in the mind to wait until the official patch and to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to download the leaked Beta..........

Ha, to hell with it, where's that link!

Yes, it sure is a no-dvd-patch, and I didnt get mine from Terrapin.

If the patch goes around SecureROM and you don't need the DVD in the drive, then it's a leaked beta patch. What this also probably means that after a set date, this beta patch (and your game) with cease to function (expires). I've done my fair share of beta testing and this has almost always been the case.

There are two rumors running around on how it was released. One was that it was put on one of Ubi's FTP server with public access. The other is that a member of the community beta tester leaked the file. I really hope that isn't the case because it could damage future beta tests, along with the community of Subsim's reputation. If it's a member of this community we should all keelhaul em!

In my opinion it's best to wait. The mods here have stated that it's several weeks old and that other things have been fixed since. Why download something that won't work with any of the current mods? You’ll have to do a reinstall when the real version comes out. You guys know that beta patches don't upgrade real well (or at all) when the release patch is released, right?

Everybody had to wait for long. Even me, i bought and played it once.
I have downloaded the patch to play sh4 finally. I want a taste of it.
It was all the time on the shelve to wait for a patch.

And i must say its a good beta patch. I have played the sim the whole day.
And i enjoyed it finally!!!!

So when the official comes i do know its another version but reinstalling
costs 15 minutes. So what is the problem?

Finally playing a bought game.

What I find intriguing is that people are not talking about it, and that is because they are playing it! No one is really complaining about anything related to it either! I'm almost tempted to get it myself!

What does "officially leaked" mean?! put "Ubisoft" and "leaked" into Google and you see the weak security of the Ubiserver's. But one could regard all these leaks in addition as a planned marketing strategy on the part of Ubisoft, because a so big publisher should be nevertheless able to get a competent serveradmin who know the simple use of the chmod command.:know:

Yep, playing it myself and no probs so far:smug: Even using my current career. And if it comes to having to reinstall SH4 with the new patch when released officially, then so be it. It only take about 15 mins :)

It's a shame you let the game sit on the shelf. Since 1.2 the game has played very well and most of the annoying bugs were worked around with mods. I found 1.2 with TM or RFB very enjoyable, so much so in fact that SH3 is now longer installed on my machine.

I am very happy to hear that so far the patch is working well for most people and that it appears to have fixed the issues that were left over since 1.2. However, I will wait until the official thing is released.

I'm sure the devs were smart enough to give any betas a fingerprint that would ID someone who leaked the patch. In any case, the final patch will also be a DVD-free version.

Yes, the patch does have a watermark. I suspect the person who did leak it is going to be in a whole new world of pain (if they work for UBI, anyway).

Don't beat me JC, Neal let it out, not me! :dead:

If this is a beta patch indeed, I don´t think they will release the final one as a no-dvd, would leave a door wide open for piracy.

Now that the beta is in the wild, I believe that the new final patch will include even more fixes and the copy protection system again just to encourage everyone to use the final and not the beta. want pirated 1.3 with fewer fixes? keep the beta, want full 1.3? get the final.

1. Form to columns and face each other.

2. Step back one pace.

3. Raise you Revel Gato model and swing as the culprit runs between the columns...

4. Sheesh

UBI I am giving you till the 20th to release the patch. The planned outage on the 19th is a perfect time to upload and prepare for the onslought of the SUBSIM community.....

If not I will be tempted to run the Beta Patch I downloaded but did not install...

Is the no dvd a certainty Neal? (Inside info???) Just the thought of disc swapping constantly makes me shiver. Has led to the insatlling of more than a few of the unmentionables!

Now this tells something doesn't it ? ;)
On the one hand I'm happy because I'll finally buy the game, on the other hand I find it really amusing that an official no-dvd patch has come under 6-7 months since the game was released to the public.
It means either that the sales aren't going very very well, or else Ubisoft finally learned the Epic way of doing things.

And I think there is the problem. 1.1 was a fast release, shortly after 1.2 came out. Then we waited, debated, ranted, speculated, and posted for 1.3 to be a reality.

Is it any wonder that if it was at all available on the web in one form or another that a craving few could not resist the temptation?

I will wait for the official 1.3 myself. But I have not played SH4 beyond a week past the 1.2 release. Mods? no thanks... Mods are ok once the core game is working right and then a mod is applied. but to try and have a mod set fix a broken game is just not the same.

Case in point: SH3 v 1.4 <-- A working, completed game core. + The famous pack = a great game.

I dont think the SH3 mod would have been quite the same had it been applied to patch 1.1 or 1.2.

I been checking here nightly since I stopped playing.. Been a loong wait.. for a game bought so long ago...

Anytime would be nice...

Sure, why not.. ergo the choice of wording.. "Few" lends itself well to any amount of people when compared to the entire player base.

More than some? Less than many? All modders + others?

Guess it is subject to interpretation by some? a handfull? and what is a handfull? finger count of 5? or how many peanuts I can hold in my hand?

lol

I don't think I've EVER heard those words out of a female's mouth! Hee hee hee...

(Actually I can't complain...my fiance buys me books on U-boats and Dick O'Kane, is excited when I take her to the USS Lexington and USS Cavalla, and says we're going to have a fleet boat shaped wedding cake. I'm in luuuuurve!:up:)

Back on topic...yes I downloaded and am using the "beta" patch. Can't be happier with the fixes included. I guess if it's already been leaked, the damage is done. If I have to restart my current career when and if a "final" version is released....It just means I get to start a Philippines based sugar boat career in Dec. of '41!
