View Full Version : Bloody heck is that possible.........
I shot down a Betty Bomber and as it crossed my bow and plunged into the sea went under then suddenly came out the sea climbed a little before falling back in to the sea, is that possible in real life?
I just could not believe my eyes, for a second I thought he was coming back to have another crack at me. :rotfl:

I've seen pictures from a 1960s incident where a german navy F-104G Starfighter hit the water during a strafing run on a target vessel and became airborne again.
The pilot made a successful landing after that.
But of course the Starfighter just skipped the water like a stone at high speed and with the fuselage only.
There's photos of that incident on the web somewhere but I can't find them right now.
Ive had planes bouncing along the water like flat rocks.
I have seen them skip a little away before sinking in the water but what I saw last night was out of this world.

I love it when they're diving for an attack and then crash into each other, seen this happen twice, last one i thought i was a goner, then boom an explosion and two planes hit the water.

No; skipping is possible, though more often than not the plane will 'dig in', and then settle. P-51 pilots were told to always bail out, as that big scoop on the bottom tended to cause the plane to flip.
An airplane is mostly aluminum, and hitting at a steep angle will pretty much always result in a shredded aircraft and shredded aircrew. No bouncing allowed.:dead:
