View Full Version : Dumb campaign question
HMMM I thought I posted this last night, first stage of Alzheimer's I guess anyway heres the question..In the first campaign I have tried I'm told to patrol off the Marshall Islands..There is nothing happening, how long do you patrol for and I thought I had unchecked realistic fuel but I dont have enough to get anyplace.Without a lot of work can someone explain campagin play or if its covered someplace here point me in the right direction..Thank you....:D

You have to stay within a 50 nm radius of the objective and stay within that circle for 48 hours. I might be wrong about the hours - 24 for sure. I myself draw a 40 nm circle with the drawing tools and stay within that setting up a zig-zag search pattern. That way I force myself to stay within the circle and have a ten mile safety zone of chasing the strays on the edge, if any.
Regarding your fuel issue, cruising from Point A to Point B faster than 1/3 speed is DEADLY. I only use 2/3 to flank speed[s] getting ahead of a confirmed convoy or task force, engage them, and then go back to 1/3 speed after the battle concludes.
Just started a new carreer with a S-Boat - having a blast of fun with it. Only ran out of fuel ONCE before I adopted 1/3 surface cruising speed.
There is nothing IN the Marshall islands in the stock campaign, sadly. You can DL my campaign mod... (WIP)

I had the same thing Clay. What I did was motor around for 48 hours. Nothing happended. I motored on down towards the Solomons and sunk 10000 tons. At this point the Marshalls was crossed off the list.:yep:
The stock patrols are just so FUBAR. In RL, more than 50% of the patrols from PH in 1942 were to the Marshalls or Truk.
Thanks guy's......About drawing the patrol radius I dont have the foggyist......

About drawing the patrol radius I dont have the foggyist......
Get on the map view [F3], find the yellow star objective, click on the compass drawing tool. Click in the center of the yellow star object, drag away with the mouse. It will give you the radius in miles. Don't click again and you might want to use your mouse wheel to unzoom. I click again while drawing the red circle when it shows 40 to 45 nm radius, then click and it draws the red circle for your patrol area.

ClayP ...
Like this - that circle is 40 miles from the center objective. Technically it's 80 miles in diameter. Hope it helps and GOOD LUCK:

No big deal, set one way point to get to the inside of the circle, then on the Navigation Map I press the "Search Pattern" icon [second one from the right], and let it automatically layout a pattern. Next, readjust the points that fall outside of the circle to be back inside the circle, and repeat the pattern on the opposite side in reverse. Takes one or two minutes. Slam bam and not too much thinking needed.
