Good Morning,
I was curious if there was a way to play SH4 career mode with "Custom" difficult settings. Im looking for everything realisitic, EXCEPT for targeting....I cant figure that out for the life of me. Easier to let the "AI" do it while I do all the other stuff, like run away :)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You have to be in your office to change it, under game options.

Select whatever realism option you like for the career. In this case, pick "very hard."

When you are in the office, move your cursor over the top shelf of the bookshelf to left, a "game options" book will opo out. That allows you to click or unclick realism options under gameplay (I think, the bottom choice, look around).

Just out of interest.........

The difficulty choices, easy, med, hard, very hard, whatever......

From what I understand these options seem independant from the realism menu.

Am I to understand that the difficulty purely determines how good the AI, how strong the damage is etc etc ??

I am playing with the TM mod, and usualy choose Very Hard, hope im choosing it for the right reasons.

What exactly, and I mean exactly do those options influence please......for example I have never seen a minefield in a campaign, 1941, 1942, 1943, and ive double checked where I should see some with my map.

You've understood it exactly wrong. Difficulty levels have absolutely nothing at all to do with AI, damage, etc. They are merely presets for the game options checklist, nothing more.

Its the radio on the top shelf to the left of your desk.

I think everyone has missed this at first.

So game difficulty is just another way of "pre-setting" the realism options page right ?

I thought it was one of the books on the bookshelf.

Oh well...

One thing to note... once you set your difficulty you cannot change it for the duration of that patrol. Once you finish the patrol and are back in the office you can then change it again.

But then you can set the realism inbetween misssions during a campaign in the mission briefing, hence im trying to clarify "EXACTLY" what "difficulty" setting actually does, because on the surface of it the option seems completely useless if it only pre-selects the "realism" options which you already selected :hmm:

So if anyone knows for absolutely SURE what the difficulty option controls, or just to clarify whats been posted already then please pipe up :)

All it does is pre-click the "realism" options, that's it.

It doesn't change the campaign (AI settings are for each ship inside each mission of the campaign), it doesn't change the AI sensors, it changes nothing but the "realism" settings. You can even open the cfg file for it and change what settings are changed when you pick a diff level, actually.

And yeah, the UI in the office is pretty horrible, I think we all missed that setting the first few times, I know I did :)

Alright, sweet, thanks  :know:

Maybe a missed chance there in retrospect, the difficulty setting would have been far better used as a multiplier for the Sensors, Damage etc etc etc, so people could run full real Realism but have an easier time while learning etc.

Thanks for making this option crystal clear :)
