I was wondering if anybody else here ever plays this. I recently joined, and I find it a really fun MMOFPS.

it's really cool, i've enjoyed the heck out of it for the last week.
esp. with team speak. :) the radio chatter in a fight is way cool.
I played it for a week, I loved it, but its hard to get into and there aren't a whole lot of people playing. :-?

Ive been playing it since 2001...it is my all time favorite game and is my benchmark for all games...ALL! :yep:
I just cant wait until they finally add subs in it...I'd like to be optimistic and say 5yrs from now.
In fact, the hopes of subs in that game is what got me interested in subs games in general. Its all been in preparation for the glorious moment they model in WWIIOnline.

Oh where do I start?!?!....
I was in the Allied High Command, I was a long time member. That being said, I will open up the corked bottle of feelings.
We have been waiting for many things from WWIIOL which just do not get delivered. This is the game that broke my gaming heart more than any other. I started playing it, realized what an awesome concept this game is with great potential. I had fun playing with friends, saw the videos of the new terrain and heard of the pipe dream ideas. I realized I was praying that all the "wonderful enhancements" would come to save the game from its dwindling population. I felt like a German soldier who wanted the "wonder weapons" to save Germany before it was too late. Finally I just could not wait any longer, and left the one game that I think has the best concept ever.
I think honestly if they could have done something for the Allies to prevent the frequent steamrolling of their forces more people could have stuck around. Sure for the Axis fanboys it was easy to love a game you win 75 percent of the time, but for Allied players the game simply is not fun. No fun = unsubscribing players. I would have thought Cornered Rat Software could have understood that...
This truly is the game I hate to love, because I know it will let me down in the end. I just can't help but see all that unfulfilled potential. :nope:

I tried this game back in 2001 (i think) but was never able to get
connected. I take that back, after about 2 weeks of trying, I finally
got into the game. I ran and jumped into the back of a truck. It took
off for the front. After about 4 min. it stopped and I got out. There was
some shooting and when I lifted my gun to return fire, DISCONNECT !!
I NEVER tried again....(it had more bugs than a locust storm)

As a die-hard Allied player, I understand the pain, but we are currently mid-campaign of what should be our second win in a row.

Its way passed those growing pains. The game is leaps and bounds beyond all that. In fact patch 1.27 is in live beta, hopefully going full live in 2 wks or so. You should both check it out, its adding a lot of new stuff and old content they've been wetting themselves want8ing to get in for years.
Mortars will be in, full Brigade based supply lists. No more cap an AB(armybase) and get full supply, all units are tied to a brigades alottment from Div HQ, so when you cap a town you have what you brought with you in terms of units remaining in supply. Re-supply will trickle in automatically provide you maintain a link to Div HQ and you dont out run your supply chain by extending your push too far away.
They threw in a few more fighters to round out the airforces, the Navy gets the next big dev cycle with the introduction of new river patrol boats with beefeed up guns and a MTB. You can also be re-suuplied in teh field now in vehicles, ATGs and I believe infantry. Players can drive supply trucks and auto re-supply ammo to firendlies in the area.
I think bailing out is close to reality and the supply trucks may also be able to provide some repair function in the future.
Anyway, all in all it is slowly but surely approaching the WWII nirvana we all hope it will be.
Been playing it on and off for a few years now. Easily the best MMO around. There is nothing like flying my Spit and seeing the sunset. Or lying in a bush at night time crawling past enemy tanks.
Hmmm might resubscribe if my boss actually puts my pay through today.

I really hate that you posted that about the Allies winning two in a row. That will be the first time the Allies have ever repeated when the Axis have done that how many times?
Man you really know how to stab me in the heart. I am doing something I said I could never bring myself to do, and that is resubscribe. I will give it one month...that is 14.99...to see if the game and me can coexist again. Hell, even if it doesn't work out, the price wasn't that much. See you on the battlefield, everyone look for juengere and say howdy if you see me. I will be the guy who has rank and has completely forgotten how to play.

I've enjoyed it, joined a squad, the Royal Green Jackets, and have enjoyed the bit that I have played. Not much interest in the moment doing anything but infantry. The tanks seem a bit complicated for me, and it's fun crawling around taking potshots at people.
Right now, about all I play are SH4, NR2003, and this.
With the patch to SH4, likely it will be more of that, since my gaming time is pretty limited. But this is a good find, I think. I hope that it prospers...

I guess a, "Welcome back!" is in order :)
Im CJWilson in game, I hang around in the deep south flying FaF and ground pounding as French infantry. and ATGs..a little DD action on occasion too :)
[quote]The tanks seem a bit complicated for me[/qoute]
Its not so much that tanks are complicated...they really arent, its just that your situtational awareness is totally screwed up when your driving through the French country side in a garbage can with wheels and a gun. Moving in groups, moving slowly and cautiously and multi-crewing helps, but its always hard when you are moving into a defended area.
Tanks are much easier if you use them as ambush weapons...well everything works better as an ambush weapon :) What I tend to do is use an Anti-tank gun(ATG), they hit just as hard as a tank, but your visibilty and situtational awareness is much better.
First off your not complacent in lulled into a false since of security by thinking your safe because your wrapped up in a can or armor...you have to remember that in most cases armor is really only "armor" against small arms fire from infantry, because tanks are designed to hit hard enough to kill other tanks, only the biggest and baddest tank for the time can roll out with any confidence, and even then they are still highly prone to death.
Second, ATgs are pushed around, so you move much slower and take in the scenery and surroundings much better.
3rd, ATGs are small, low profile and thus easy to hide and conceal in bushes, tree lines, in buildings, etc. So the noob/cocky tanker who comes speeding down the street or through the bush never sees you first. If your ATG is big enough, they'll never get a shot before you flame him and pop his top anyway.
The only draw back to ATGs is that your have very littl eprotection if your located, or if an infantry is stalking you or just accidently runs up on you...but then again, if the infantry guy doesnt see you, you can always run over him and kill with your big ATG :)
You'd be surprised how many times Ive had enemy infantry run right past me while in a treeline or tucked into a bush. Sometimes i let em go, sometimes I "pop" them with an armor piercing round :) My best infantry kill with a 37mm anti-tank round was from 1700yds :)
Resubbed, guess I missed OT.
I did play it first on the Axis then on the Allied side. I have to say overall I enjoyed playing French much more than winning as the Gerries. It felt better to fight a defensive war.
I still remember when a guy and me got on a Gerrie patrol boat and sailed a few hours till we got to Dover. We started to chat about ourselves, the world, the beauty of the sea. Then we started to write songs we both knew like we were singing together. We could shoot down 6 planes, looked like half of the RAF wanted our death. Then we got to Dover where there was a little sea skirmish and we sunk two patrol boats then merrily sailed back home to somewhere in the Neatherlands.
That was one of the best gametime I ever had. It's great when you are stuck together in a ship and start to talk about everything, makes you get closer to someone from the world.
Hmm I'll watch how the patches come and the game develops. There's something in me telling to resubscribe.

haha I remember this game.
Me and a friend got Stranded WAYYY behind enemy lines as British troops so we pretended we were SAS people and went on a wild personal mission then we got found out and were overwhelmed by German Riflemen.
Such a great experience....if they put subs in the game I would resubscribe.

it was the first game i preorder bant in 01 and still play it every once in awhile what kick me off about it back then was they kept saiding everything was in and the day it was release didnt even have the navy in place Might check it back out My name was donegan
I was a ww2ol beta tester before release, I still have my account. Lately I started playing again after a break sine... SH4 came out, lol), the last patch is quite cool (though they need to add some timing to BDE movements IMO).
It's not at all the same game as 2001. If you can play SH4 with decent settigns, you can play ww2ol fine now. They have free trials, it really is worth a look, and you've got to respect the whole idea of it.

I've kinda shelved this, I guess that I enjoy SH4 more....
1.27 is pretty cool. They need to tweak either the resupply timers, or the BDE movement rules with the TOE system since the HCs are swapping out BDEs faster than they can atrit. Still, mortars are quite cool, as is overstock resupply, and the resupply trucks.

My name is juengere.
I used to play strictly Allied, but now I just play on the side that is underpop. I may choose soon to play strictly for one side or another, but only if I find a cool squad. I helped run the Royal Scots before, and it really helped to work with and do tactics with a platoon sized element working together on TS. I also loved coordinating my squad with my Brigade to achieve victory in the towns we attacked. Wow, now being a lone wolf I forgot how much I miss being in a good squad.

WWII Online, that game never really stuck to me, maybe it just seemed laggy or something. Granted I was new to the game, so maybe my lack of understanding the game mechanics made it less enjoyable. Maybe I'll try it out again and see If I change my mind.
I doubt it can pull me away from EVE: online though....

It's had a lot of improvements over the years and it runs pretty good nowadays. It can still be laggy for me when i'm in a city with heavy fighting but you just need to tweak your GFX settings to get it right most of the time.
It's a totally differant game to EVE. I played EVE and while I loved the idea I really don't like that you don't control the ship yourself. I expected to be able to plug a joystick in and have some good space dog fights but the constant auto-pilot is kind of boring.
I see why people like it though, such a huge world and player-base. I just wish it was more like the X-Universe games when it comes to piloting a ship.

Well back when I tried it out, I couldn't find any combat. So I ended up running around the country side trying to find people, for an hour or so. I ended up getting killed by some random German in a bush, so my first experience in the game wasn't the best, but im sure its better now. EVE is a great game in my opinion, theres always something to do and see, and I think its only going to get better with the new Trinity update.

Haha your first mission is the typical for all players. You really need to learn where the fights are and be careful when approaching the hot spots.
If you ever resub make sure you hit the forums and ask for help. Joining a squad is the best thing a new player can do.
There is nothing like doing a paradrop mission in ww2ol. You start with a hole lot of people at an airbase, jump into a plane that someone is piloting, and jump over a town while getting shot at. You need at least 30 mins free if you want to login though, it's not your normal multiplayer FPS afterall.
We just need submarines in it!

honestly prob wouldn't know until the beta of them, but doesn't matter,id prob stick with SH4,and SH3 as soon as GWX 2.0 comes out...but I could posibly give up my brigade general status for JG3/Grp II CO and go kreigsmarine just for the subs;P

11-29-07, 01:00 AM
So your a Brigade General? How does the rank system work if I may ask?
CodyLang
11-29-07, 01:14 AM
hard to explain really...but as a basic, it kinda goes like, capping enemy buildings, and army bases you can gain points for a rank, the higher the rank, the harder to get points, you can get points also anyway, by killing someone, to deploying a mobile spawn and etc...Theres also another way you can gain rank,is by joining the GHC(German High Command) or AHC(Allied High Command) but I wouldn't recommend this if you were a newer person to the game and wasn't familar with how the game works, but if you do that, you automaticly get boosted up to a Colonel, and you can pick what you'd like to be in,Navy,Army,Airforce, and they would posistion you(higher ranking guys) in either a XXO,XO,CO spot, but usually XXO or XO.
TheBrauerHour
11-29-07, 07:31 PM
Yeah, I was in Allied High Command for a short time. I find the strategic part of the game is not for me. I like the tactics on the ground in the fight.
...oh, and the paradrops are a brilliant part of the game. When the jumpmaster says go go go and you jump...you really realize how vulnerable you are. But the mayhem of a large battle is awesome!

I still laugh at a situation that occurred me last year out on the netherlands ( islands in that area ).
Ok first off im a hardcore axis player i cant shoot with the allied tanks for ****, i just plainly cant hit anything, but i can hit a ford truck from 4500m moving in a Pz III
wich is amazing :P
anyhow.
Me and my squad ( 91st Sturmbattalion )
were on OKW orders going to take a town out on an island, so we get about 30 ppl
together and decide that me and 2 more get 3 PzIII's for armored support.
and the rest go paratroopers for swift taking once armored hits the shores.
( note this is was a amphibius and airborne operation. )
So we sit on a darn cargo ship for 3 hours ( RL ) while being transported to the island. and we got attacked twice by hurricanes ( managed to survive thx to the LuftWaffes swift help. ) Once on the ground we went from the beach ( to stay out of those evil british destroyers.. ( they will destroy you ) wo closed onto town.
when we were about 4km from the town our tank leader ordered halt and engines off. we waited about 10min for paratroopers to arrive aswell.
At the first sight of a paratrooper's chute we started rolling into the town.
first 5 min we took all flags but one.
Enemy destroyer showed up and knocked out my tank wingman ( sort of speak ) in 2 hits.
Leader ordered me into town for use of buildings for cover.
he stayed behind hiding just on the outskirts of town and there was an intense firefight inside the town, the enemy destroyer was bombarding everywhere ( after about 20min of fighting my tank leader got disabled by AT rifle fire, and destroyed from satchel due to not being able to move.
Para's ultimatly captured the flags in the end ( with me circuling the middle like crazy ( lost left track from fire of the destroyer my tank commander was dead aswell. and out of gun ammo ) but i love the IIIF since they have 3 mgs ( 2 coax and 1 hull i think it is ).
In the end it was a really good fight we managed to take the "village" much thanks to the LuftWaffe and KriegsMarine ( who destroyed that DD with torpedoes instantly).
