Well its the middle of winter here, rains alot at night with the wind howling away, nothing better than to load up a horror game and scare the bejesus out of me.
3 games that i think will work yet which one should i choose:hmm:
Silent Hill 4

Red Ocean (not really a horror game but its R18 so must have something scary in it? lol)

Penumbra Overture

Might go with Silent Hill 4 unless anyone knows of a better one out there..

If you want a decent story, try Call of Cthulhu. HP Lovecraft. The designers did a good job at making it pretty dark and disturbing. That is if that is what you are looking for.

The horror in it is portraid in a way of an axe murderer type feel, where you are the victim, and you must survive. Think in the way of a whole town that wants you dead, and you finding evidence of what happened to past visitors of the town, or should I say peices? :D
From a graphics point of view, it is not spectacular, but it works. It probably works fine on lesser hardware too.
I played the original Prenumbra. It was OK, but when you finially see what is eating at you, it's not all that scary. The anticipation leading up to seeing what is in the dark was good though.
As for Silent Hill 4, I've never seen a straight across port form a PS2 that looked good, or played good. You're Red Ocean looks a bit intriguing though!

There's always F.E.A.R.;).
Yeah, FEAR is good, but its more a BOO! game than the very cool and creepy Call of Cthulhu.
Red Ocean is new to me, but check out the name of the main character! His name is Jack Hard! :rotfl:

Will try that Call of Cthulhu, forgot about that. Played Fear was good but didn't think it was that scary, good enemy AI tho.
Silent Hunter 4
D'oh... I mean, Silent Hill 4
I liked the Fahrenheit.
What about the classic "SYSTEM SHOCK 2"?
Brrrrr....it gave me such a chill every time i played it.
And its not a BOO game, all atm.

Far Cry was pretty good. Scared the crap out of me when I first came across one of those mutants.

Far Cry had a scary part to it? I don't remember that at all, and I finished the game. Mutants didn't do it for me.

When it came out awhile back Resident Evil 4 scared the crap out of me, it is now out for the PC, but a few years have gone by so I am not sure what it would be like on a PC.

Yeah I have that too. I bought a gamecube for the hell of it at one point in time. RE 4 probably was the best looking game for it. Call of Cthulhu is much more dreary and horror like though.

if you have an Xbox or PS2...
Both of the Fatal Frame games scared the crap out of me!
Your Red Ocean looks fantastic! But...it is very familiar. Reminds me of the game "Bioshock" set to come out later this year.

Nope, it is definately Bioshiock. Underwater world/fps/horror/rpg in one. Much like your Red Ocean. http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/ if you have any doubts.

Condemned: criminal origins. Actually creeped me out, and I don't scare easy.

Yes, good game.
BTW, I have yet to read anything good about Red Ocean from non-German sources.

See Condemned really didn't creep me out very much. A lot like FEAR, it was all just sudden attacks that made for a great spook once in a while, but It really doesn't warp your mind while playing like a good horror game should :know:. I think of Condemned as more of a action/mystery game than a horror game.
I would suggest any of the SH games and the Resident evil remake on the cube was a great scare
Forbidden siren was also a good scare (ps2)

I wouldn't recommend Silent Hill 4. It's by far the weakest of the series to the borderline of being annoying. SH1 I think was for Playstation only but SH 2 & 3 are both good games all the way and they fit to continuum of SH 1. Part 4 is a standalone. If you can get System Shock 2 it's well worth the effort, a classic by any defintion. BioShock, unfortunately, has received some negative previews of being more of a hectic shooter but I sure as hell hope this ain't so.
