OK, so I'm probably the the last person alive to hear about this, but just in case there are others who don't know, Operation Flashpoint 2 was actually renamed(or axed) and has been released as Arma Combat Operations. I have no idea what Arma stands for.

Just got it today, and it looks great! I found it at Microcenter here, near Atlanta, GA.

For those of you who have been living under a different rock and have never heard of Operation Flashpoint, it is, in my opinion, the best modern day infantry simulator. First or third person perspective, very realistic, you can have a up to a 12 man squad with you which you can command as a squad or each individual in that squad seperatly.
You can drive tanks, jeeps, humvees, planes, boats, copters, etc..The mission editor is very powerful and fairly easy to use, and the playing field can be as small as you want it, or as large as the whole island(there are 4 islands I think), which are fairly huge. Will take about an hour to drive from one end to the other in some cases.

Probably find something about it here in the Other Naval Games & All Kinds of Other Games (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=177) forum.

I could never get into Operation Flashpoint, I think at the time Counter Strike had a hold over me :) But yeah its well known as one of the best shooters of all time... But you want another good shooter team base then try Battlefield 2142 or battlefield 2 lots of fun! Watch out for kingkaos (thats me) im always a sniper or medic.:arrgh!:

Ive been reading up about Arma combat yet haven't been swayed yet to go out and grab it. Does it have a good point scoring online?

Yup, was a big Op Flashpoint fan, used to design missions for it and stuff like that. For some reason Arma doesn't quite seem to have the same spark of excitement for me as Flashpoint did, but I think that might simply be because the open-ended approach to completing missions was so innovative for Op Flashpoint, that I kind of take it for granted in Arma. Arma is still streets ahead of most other FPS games and runs great with all the graphics on full throttle too, which makes a change these days!

I do love the fact that you can still do the missions in any way the hell you like, for example the one where you have to destroy the armor in the base at the beginning of the campaign, I tried the stealthy approach loads of times, but couldn't manage it, so in the end I infiltrated an enemy camp, stole a helicopter and strafed the living crap out of the armor in that chopper with an enemy chopper coming after me (which I shot down), funny as hell and mission accomplished.

I certainly do recommend it if you like a game where you can 'do your own thing' with the tactics.

That is true. Armed Assault is completely seperate.

If EA ever actually fixed the Battlefield series, then it might be more entertaining, but no - EA's BF series is a major disappointment.

As for online scoring - how about simply trying to stay alive? :D

Yes, but its just a title name with no connection to the original creators at all. Codemasters has the rights for OPF TM but they stopped working with Bohemia few years ago. Judging by the fact that it is aimed for consoles too...i say  .

A big fan of old OPF, dont like ARMA, Its the same gameplay with nothing new beside an unoptimized graphic engine and some old AI. And from what i hear it has a lousy campaign too (original opf campaign was awsome!).

The campaign is as good as the original, but not up to par as the old resistance campaign. The old campaigns are being ported over apprently, and will probably released for free, but on a new engine of course!

The ArmA campaign is OK, but there are rumors that it wasn't what was originally intended for ArmA. It is an interim until the real one is finished, and that one will be released as an add on within weeks as I type this. I'll go find that link and post back.

Here it is - I believe this was the intended campaign to be released with ArmA. This is fine because I have no problem having 2!:

Arma Expansion - Queen's Gambit

Monday, 18 June 2007 505 Games announced the official expansion pack for its realistic tactical combat simulation title ArmA: Armed Assault.

Key Elements

Two new story based campaigns
Rahmadi Conflict: The true conclusion to the original ArmA story, with enormous battles taking place within massive fortifications on the Rahmadi Island and brand new Porto Island.
Royal Flush: 18 months after the original conflict, a group of seasoned mercenaries arrives to help the government with a sensitive matter that the army can‘t handle by itself any longer. However, there is something highly suspect about this job…
New Multiplayer Missions
Urban Raid: A cooperative multiplayer scenario designed for a group of six battle-hardened Special Forces soldiers.
Battle of Porto: A “capture and hold” scenario for forty players on a brand new and beautiful sandy island of Porto.
Final patch 1.08
The latest patch brings to the ArmA world new weapons, vehicles and characters, along with a new resource management feature and gun dealers. It also brings dozens of multiplayer and technical improvements, which finally enables North American players fight on the same battlefields as the International community.
