View Full Version : Can't finish a career syndrome?
Anyone else have this. I am probably played like 30 different SH3 careers. Besides the ones where I die (I play DiD) I have never finished one. I always come up with an idea for a new career and delete all my old ones. Hehe. I don't know what's wrong with me.
My plan is to finish a career in a type VIIB. I will start at the beginning of the war and actually finish it. So if i come on here and start babbling about type IID's or IXB and C's tell me to shut up and go back to my type VIIB (might switch to a C later) and finish the war like a good captain. Unless I die of course. :)
Nothing wrong with you or the game ;). I get this phenomenon to, but preferably with RPG's :>

I have a couple of different careers going at the same time.
i do too sometimes. but then I get a new idea and delete every other career. i think once I leave a career for too long without playing I begin to see it as unplayable. :damn:

I always finished my careers, or I guess they finished me :yep:
Not an easy task going to the end of the war, specially with GWX.

I now only play one career at a time and only until I die (I play DiD) which usually comes sometime around '43. I tried two careers at once some years ago but it felt like I was cheating or not being able to concentrate on one so I stopped it.
I don't even like starting a career later in the war. I once started one late to see what a XXI would be like...felt like I was doing something wrong because I hadn't earned it. Oh, well....

I do two careers at a time... I'm doing one real time (for over a month now real time) and one that I time compress. The time compressed ones, I am definitely a memeber of the "Two Patrols, You're Dead Club" *Lifts mug in tribute to those others in the club*:arrgh!:

I got what i call the Uber career - always submerged.
Actually this works really well:yep:
Start a new career in my case 1940 VIIB in St Naraire. In the realism options turn off Limited batteries, limited compressed air and limited 02. Now your U-boat acts like a modern submarine well sort of, no need to surface.
I leave port & when approx 100km out at sea give the order for crew to have their last smoke, say goodbye to the sun and order boat to 40feet. Then i do the whole patrol submerged. Its better if you have external view off as the feeling of cloisterphobia really hits home, your only see the sky when your at periscope depth and raise the scope. Only time i will surface is to load external torpedoes, also send a quick message back to Bdu on my patrol progress then once externals are loaded, its back to the depths.
Your Sonar man is the only contact of the outside world so its vital all upgrading is on those sonar equipment!:)
Your only do 8kts when submerged (pray for the XXI to come early!) prepare for long patrols, and chasing convoys is a hit and miss.
Once within 100kms from homebase on my way back, i surface.
Its a whole new game!

I always play the career until I get sunk.

I have a number of careers on the go simulatneously, but based on actual U-Boat commanders. Using the incredibly wonderful SH3 Commander ( pauses to kneel facing Oz and bow to JScones) it's possible not only to give your Kaleun a name, but also to give him the date and place of birth and early career history of a genuine U-Boat Commander, starting his wartime career when he did, from the same base and in the same type of boat. The information is readily available from Uboat.net.
It just adds a little "something" to the game for me.
