Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that my PC (which I spent so much time repairing just earlier) has blown a motherboard, and now that I'm left with no backup or finances to buy a new system (which would involve motherboard, CPU, RAM and video card - I don't see a point buying an AGP system or maintaining old RAM) - I may be away for quite a while. I'm typing this from the library now, but unlike Sailor Steve I can't go there too regularly (it's a 1.5 hour trip from my home).

I could possibly afford a new system, but I've been saving for a road trip that I'm planning with some friends in September (which among other things would include Chicago and the U-505), and I just don't want to let that go. Especially since we'd just finalized our plans for it, too :(

I'll see if I can arrange something, but I'm not too optimistic. If it comes to worst - well, I'll see you in a couple of months.

Good hunting, in any case!!

That's simply terrible to hear.

You'll have an absolute blast at U-505 in Chicago, it's a really great place to go see, I know from experience! :yep:

Well, at least you guys convinced me not to dump my trip budget just yet :D

I'm now looking into systems and keeping my fingers crossed that maybe I'll be able to get a bit of mercy from relatives in letting me borrow money. I'm really kicking myself for not being able to find a summer job - thought I'd get by and spend the extra time getting ready to write my thesis. Well so much for that

On the bright side maybe I'll get out and spend more time outdoors now :p

Having an occasional brake from PCs is not the worst of things, CCIP. If it hurts too much, you are already so addicted that you are in need of this therapy anyway! ;)

My goodness, where do you live that a library is an hour and a half from home?

Don't give up on the road trip, think about it, the longer you delay getting a new computer the better it will be.

Go to a PC recycle place, spend a couple bucks and make a pile of junk that at least boots - should hold you over.

Indeed, what is it a 400 fsb mobo? Would be pretty cheap and you can always plug her up to your main TV when you get a new one. I've got 3 PC's running myself plus another 4 that my housemates use.

1 in my room, 1 in living room, 1 in the shed... yes i'm a geek.
