Thaks for sharing. What can I say?
SH3 rocks
Looks like SH IV generated the interest and that many of the desillusioned SH IV buyers now have come to SHIII to play a finished game.
There are some signals that SHIII has again hit the shelves in many shops!
It is a good thing that SHIII generates some more revenue for the UBI pirates, maybe subsims aren't dead after all....
SH IV will be great too, it just has to be finished first.

it would put out a new SH3 - called, say, "SH3 Ultimate" with a 1.5 patch, tons of new ships, and fixes to the crew voices - etc. etc. - while avoiding the mistakes of SH4, and also avoid trying to make it run with Gate's Beasta. Also making it more modder friendly. Heck I'd even pay more hard cash for that. It wouldn't take them long - since modders have already shown the way - and it would make some fast bucks to make up for their SH4. They could even scrap that silly fatigue system and use that space to creat something like a system where the more you put your crew through practice events (like Crash Dive practice) the faster and better they do their jobs. Or here is an idea - only lower crew strength on a weakly basis instead of the non-functional hourly system. And have an hourly system kick in ONLY when in actual combat situations (you know, when your crew looks concerned and begin to hunker over).
But here is the real things that should be added: a basic non player U-Boat AI, multiplayer DD or Ship options, and top of the list and the easiest to create?????? - MORE ROOMS. A diesel room, an electric motor room, Torp rooms, and bunk rooms. - Oh and a better destroyed routine. And of course beef up ship AI so that when I sink all the escorts the merchants break up and ramp up their speed to max and try to run for it. Heck I'd pay three times the asking price for SH4 for a SH3-Ultimate like that. And it would be easy for them since they could invite the modders who knew their stuff to help out (I think many would likely do it just for name recognition .
And let's face it the American Silent Service just wasn't as sexy as the U-boat war.

And the Three Stoggies at UBI will increase the requirements for the PC to an impossible level and then wonder why it won't sell and can't be modled

I'm not suprised by this at all. I bought SHIV on pre-order, the deluxe edition, played it for a bit and got fed up with it. For some reason I get more enjoyment out of playing SH3, especially with the GWX mod
Maybe when I've got some cash for more memory I may give it another go, otherwise it's back to my trusty U Boat:D
Personally I think alot of semi-casual gamers just went on to the next game when the patches were ... a bit lacking.
The interest will build itself back up when/if we get something as titanic as GWX for SH4.
Edit: Or maybe not, the Atlantic IS cooler. My problem is graphics, they are so damned sweet in SH4 I just cant stop playing. (After AA and AF support were implemented)

Interesting points there Stabiz.
Without this being another attack on SHIV and sparking off another serious forum row, I have to admit that I was very disapointed with the overall gameplay and interface of SHIV especially the crew managment system which left me at time very baffled. The graphics are indeed very impressive but I feel the gameplay was very lacking. I realise this is a new game, but SHIII's gameplay is far better, as well as some of the finer point to the game. But overall I found the voyage from Pearl to Japan far too boring with nothing really to break up the monotony of the journey. At least with SHIII, a visit to the US eastern seaboard for Op Paukenschlag you have more chance to engage enemy convoys or single ships while on the way to your assigned patrol area.
Too many bugs and a feeling that UBI really rushed this one and were really not listening to the community as a whole has left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
SHIII rocks and has done ever since it first come out, the genre is far more interesting in my opinion, maybe it's a European opinion. Maybe the US sub war really was too "secret" after all.
Being a real U-boat fan and having only marginal interest in the Pacific Theatre....(I do own SH by the way) I can only say that SH III is a great game that has had the longest lifespan of any game I have owned so far.
But comparisons between the two games at this stage are not fair; SHIII wasn't all that brilliant before it was patched and -thank God- modded to make it the complete game it is now. It took about two years for GWX tot surface.....
Right now everybody is awaiting the much anticipated 1.3 patch to Sh IV; modding of SH IV will undoubtedly pcik up after that.....
In a couple of months SH IV will be a good game as well....
Will it be better that SH III? I don't know; will it be better than it is now: most definitely.
Will I be playing it: probably not....I hope to be playing the next coming of GWX by then...

Theirs something boreing about playing SH 4 compared to SH 3 GWX.
SH 4 your only enemy is well...depth charges and hilarious AI that stops after a ship is hit by a torp + Jap planes that come outta nowhere time and time again and you can just dive.
SH 3 GWX has Hedgehogs, Random DD patrols, Real modeled Air cover and Planes with missiles that can strike you down instantly.

SH4 has potential, but it will take a lot of time to make it as great as SH3. Patch 1.3 is not going to do miracles... it will fix many bugs and problems, but it will need certainly some major modding work like in SH3.... you got to give it 2 or 3 years.
Anyway, I am not trying to make comparissons, but for me, SH4 is not as interesting as SH3.

Patch may make the difference as well. Playing both, enjoying both :yep: Nice to have both options, Pacific and Atlantic:up:

Well you too have some good points, but I for one think the crew management and damage interface is far superior in SHIV. Missions are more varied to make up for the monotony (and of course less danger) in the Pacific.

I imagine things will flip once the new patch for Sh4 comes out. Uh, assuming it ever does....I'm personally not too sanguine about it, but I'm a gloomy gus about most things in life so don't go by me.
The graphics are pretty superior on SH4, though, gotta hand 'em that....but gameplay was a bit off the mark.
A GWX-type mod for SH4 would be awesome!

Both Campaigns are Cool ! each for different reasons and in different
ways. The Battle of the Atlantic you can study your whole life and
never finish though. The american campaign in the pacific is also very
cool to learn about and has many great moments with many Intruiging
aspects of the strategic war.
They are different studies though as they are different campaigns.
The German attempt to strategically strangle an Island nation didnt
work for many various reasons
the American campaign to strategically strangle an Island nation did work
In spades. and with quite a few less boats than the germans.
the asw study and length and wholesale volume of the "trench warfare
at sea" in the atlantic gives that battle an appeal in the sense of the
shear mass of the study.
when comparing the two campaigns you have to remember the differences
between those campaigns.
by the same token the only valid comparison of sh3 and sh4 should be based not on comparing with GWX 1.03 (or 4) but with comparing vanilla
versions of both.
how many ran into non rendered shorelines in the beginning with sh3.
it had many problems. in a vanilla comparison they arent as far apart.
I love both games and I Love the whole subject not just these two
campaigns.
