I took Steve's advice not long ago and ordered the 5 hour version from Amazon, got it in a couple or three days and enjoyed the hell out of it... Thanx Steve :D

My Wife couldn't figure out why I hung all our meat in the hallway, and the veggies were put in the bathroom until she saw the movie...

no the directors cut is not 5 hours version.

Das Boot was actualy a tv production and came in 10 series of 30 minutes each. Later they have cut it together into a 2 hour movie. But people wanted to see all so they released a full 5 hour version. This one was to long for some so they have pushed out directors cut which is i think about 3 and a half hours.

After hanging out here for awhile I found myself just picking apart the details of the movie for this and that I didn't think were quite right. The most awesome movie ever made of U-Boat warfare and I'm wasting my time criticizing! It's not like a better one is likely ever to be made. Oh well... Nature of the beast I suppose.

Given your background I have to take your word on that. I was told the original was the 2 1/2-hour movie, and the series was released a year later as six 50-minute episodes. I do know the Director's Cut was released about ten years ago, and the 'Uncut' version about three years ago.

The Director's Cut is 3 1/2 hours.

In Munich is the model they used in the studio for all interior shots. Great fun to shout: "ALARM" there. Really alot of people start running to bow and all the small hatchets are really small. :D
