Gotta agree........The article just about says it all :yep:
I don't think the thread title is quite right! Eugene Fluckey was more than just an admiral to most submarine fans.
An amazing life. We haven't lost a submarine ace of this scale since Erich Topp a year and a half ago, but one just wonders how long those that are still with us will be around every time there's news like this :(

We extend humbly to his family our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies in this, their time of great grief and sorrow.
At 93 there is nothing to grieve about. I'd think it was cause to celebrate ones life.

Noon 7th of August 1945:
"The officers and Chief Saunders lined up, caps and ties on, appearing more polished than I had seen them since we left Pearl a year ago. Solemnly, I read my orders. Pat read his. We saluted as he said, "I relieve you sir." We shook hands and Pat gave his first order. "Splice the main brace!" "
"Thunder Below" Eugene B. Fluckey.
RIP Admiral.

My thoughts exactly. The Barb is one of my favorite boats, and he was the commander.

I am very saddened by the loss. It just so happens that I am reading his book "Thunder Below!" right now. This guy sure was a hero.
