Does anyone know how to get rid of those crawling textures on railings and masts. They are ugly as all heck and ruin the wonderful graphics in this sim. Check this screenie...

See how the railings look like horizontal barber poles? The stripes "crawl" back and forth when the sub rocks with the waves.

I am using the latest ATI drivers with the latest ATI TRAY TOOLS. My card is an x1950 Pro.

Also textures at a distance flash and shimmer, especially when a ship is damaged. I think that MIP MAPPING is FUBAR in this sim but I am hoping that my driver just needs tweaking.

THANKS!

Same. Didn't really notice the horizontal barber poles. Just got back into sh4 today. I'll bet it's there though.

Are you using any AA or AF?

Just curious do you also suffer from the water flashing really quickly every once and a while (like every 5 minutes). Been doing that since I got it months ago and I'm surprised it's still there. I hope the patch looks into it.

if you want to get rid of those "jagged lines" you have to activate AA (antialiasing). AA makes all lines to appear smoother, but has a direct impact on fps. Want to try it? start with 2AA and check out fps. Go can go higher if you rig allows it.

I've encountered this. I think it's relating on the same thing that's causing the flickering textures at some distance. GPU's temperatures maybe? At least my X1950XT is running pretty hot with SH4

Oh, and I too have these jagged lines on the same places. Been toying with the AA and AF settings but can't really seem to make those go away. Doesn't really bother me that much but it kind of ruins the graphics...

Try the different graphic card settings in the tray tools manually and don't allow the game to control the settings.

Thanks for all the suggestions but that screenie was taken with 6x AA, 8x AF+(High Quailty AF) and temporal AA set to 3x.

The AA is working fine. You can see that the railing of the sub is nice and linear with no jaggies. I think the problem is with the lighting effects. When shading occurs on slender surfaces it tends to shimmer from light to dark as the boat rocks.

Does anyone know how to change the lighting effects on surfaces?

Also the blinking textures at distance seems to be a problem for everyone. Who can shed some light on that?

THANKS!

I have the lines but do not know how to get rid of them. As far as blinking textures at a distance, seems to have been cleared up when I installed the 7.6 driver for my ATI card.

I don't know much about ATI, but with Nvidia, any AA other than 4x or 8x can act a little funky in some games. Very subtle, I'd recommend you try 4x, 8x, and 16x (yeah it will be slow but informational).

If it's really bothering you, you might need to just switch to an NVidia card, they have great AA though I haven't looked too closely at this game yet since it's shelved.
