I have been noticing a lot of players talking about the difficulty of evading a DD down even at 200 meters depth.

Hoewever i have found that sometimes i can evade them at 100 meters while other times i have to go much much deeper.

Also i have noticed that even though the DDs are still making attack runs... sonar pings are no longer audible once i go deep. Sometimes i will hear the ping as deep as 200 meters, other times i cant hear them after passing 90 meters or so.

is this SH3 commander simulating thermal layers?

I almost always have no problem evading destroyers by diving down to 150 meters and creeping away at silent speed... their depth charges never get close at all. in 9 patrols i have only had one depth charge run get close enough to shake the boat. This particular career started in 9/39 it is now 2/42

using GWX and SH3C

is this SH3 commander simulating thermal layers?

Highly likely :yep:
This is just one of the great functions SH3 Cmdr gives the player :up:

From SH3 Commander Manual:

Simulated thermal layers - by Hemisent.
Randomly adjusts active/passive listening device values to simulate the impact of thermal layers. Editable through 'Randomised events.cfg' located in your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

The complete Manual can be found here:
