View Full Version : Load Times?

I have been enjoying my first extended campaign in SH4 but find that as the campaign has gone on the load times have become intolerable. It now takes almost 10 minutes to start up a reloaded campaign - and I have a fairly fast system with many of the graphics scaled back already. Anyone else see this or know what to do about it? Thanks

10 minutes is around average for me.
I timed one load at nearly 15 minutes from when I started the game to the loaded save.
Nothing that can be done about it that Im aware of other than being patient.

Yes, go get something to eat, mow the grass, come back and you are
ready to play :D
Like SW said, it is a reality with the game as it was and is with GWX. Although a faster system does speed up things a little bit.

Depends on what you classify as a fast system. I'm running a C2D 6600 at stock speed, 2 gigs ram, and an 8800GTS 320. Load times for campaign is about a minute tops.
SH3 + GWX load times were horrible in comparison. On my old machine (a P4 2Ghz) it took well over 10 minutes. You guys kid about going and mowing the lawn or other such things. That was my reality! The new system loads GWX much faster than that, but SH4 has much quicker load times from what I've seen.

delete all "safety saves" and older saves before making a final save before "return to windows"...i got the feeling that helps.

This way, not with a ride-on or push.

Mods can dramatically effect loading times as well.
When I applied the uhhh bearing mod my load times nearly doubled. Some work was done on that mod in order to improve them but it still has impact.
Personally Id rather live with the long load times as opposed to not having that particular mod.

Yes, I have a bunch of mods enabled, and although the load times are a hassle, the experience\game is worth the wait:up:

I have the Trigger Maru mod plus about 5 small mods and my load time is only a couple of minutes.

Disable all and any unnecessary background programs, including antivirus, defrag your HDD, turn off explorer.exe and start the game from task manager [File>New task (run...) and find SH4 shortcut and you're set...:yep:
Trust me...:know:

It's not the save games as much as the length of your current patrol.
In conversations with one of the developers he made it clear that the longer you are out, the longer the load times are as the game has to load every event that has occured on that patrol every time you start it. So if you are in the habit of going for a lot of refits and only returning to port occasionaly for a new mission you are looking at longer and longer load times.
If you return to port and start a new patrol the load time will decrease dramatically, but immediatly start to lengthen as you continue on.
Oh, and having a man's computer helps too!

load times, i suspect, are affected by the size of the save in MBs. i've had them at less than 2-3MB and they load quickly enuff, however at up to 5MB it takes much longer so i really don't think it has anything to do with what mods are enabled. i've got 32 enabled
