I had forgotten that I had this until I was clearing the attic of stuff but I have a Kriegsmarine bordmutze (o/r) with the insignia of the 9th U-boat flotila in brass on it. It was bought in the late 80's following my watching of Das Boot. I was thinking of putting it on ebay but do not know what to charge for it any ideas?

Nice idea, I like it.
And incase that isn't atmospheric enough for you, you could also throw yourself at the nearest wall whenever a depth charge goes off nearby, and throw cups of cold salty water in your face when you're on the bridge in a nasty storm.

It's probably worth a bunch if it's original WWII. Thus, what ever you list it for, it will probably be bid up. You could also place a reserve on your auction. Note: there are alot of these items that are post-war or just plain fake (reproductions). If there's a way to authenticate its age and history, you'll do better in the auction.
Do some research on ebay before you list. Run a search for "Kriegsmarine" in ebay and save your search for easy reference. I search the new listings under "Kriegsmarine" four or five times per day. There are always hats, caps, badges, etc. listed. Watch for a while and you'll get a good idea what they'll bring.
Note: ebay does not allow the Nazi emblem to be shown on these types of items. They will pull the listing. If there's an emblem, cover it up on the photo. Also note the disclaimers some people use in these listings. Also, some of these items are NOT allowed to be shipped into certain countries.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Von Zelda great info.
The cap has a eagle on the front and a brass sword fish emblem so I guess I would have to cover those. I think, tho I am not sure that it is a re pro and may have been something to do with the film as I brought it around the late 80's but having done some english civil war re enacting my gut would say that it is too easy to say it is original and from the film, but still a nice piece of historical clothing.
I would (have but dont tell anyone) sat in it whilst playing SHIII but think th efunds raised may help pay for some bits for my re enacting.... mmmmm new halbard...

People In Germany wont be able to buy it if it had a Swastika on it.

A sign of the times. I typed a reply to this post re. having to cover-up the Swastika emblem and why I feel that is so wrong. Then I remembered that it would probably start a whole slanging match, with people getting hot under the collar and decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Something is wrong with society when you have to censor your own thoughts or edit history for fear of upsetting some "politically correct" group or other. Ah well.

Covering up the emblem is an eBay thing; or your listing will be terminated by them.
It's ironic but eBay allows books published with the emblem on the cover to be shown in listings.
