Seen that pic before. Seems to do the rounds every so often.
Perhaps it's the next challenger for the America's Cup.

2 Propulsion systems?
3 systems. When the gun is fired, the ship reverses rapidly.

Ok, Let's make fun of the New Zealanders!:rotfl: At least Canada has an Airforce.:yep:
At least Canada has an Airforce.:yep:
Yea. And we trained most of the American Air Force in WW2. At the end of WW2 we had the 4th (?) larget navy in the world. Fine military tradition we have up here. I dunno why we always get the grief.:p
Our only shame was in the budget cuts of the 90s after the brutal deficit of the 80s. The military was amalgamated into a single force, the Armed Forces, and everything was cut. Ironically in Afghanistan I think I remember hearing that Canadian troops were getting flown around by the Dutch in Chinooks that we had sold to them earlier.:nope:

Don't let it get you down mate, not worth it.
All countries eventually get in the line of fire here.

Are you sure about that? I think you mean the Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

Third.

The merger was in 1968, and created the Canadian Forces - no "Armed" - just a little niggle of mine :p

Two weeks ago I attended the 2007 Maritime Security Conference (http://centreforforeignpolicystudies.dal.ca/pdf/msc2007/MSC_Announcement.pdf) here in Halifax. One thing I learned is that because our navy doesn't have as many capabilities as some others (most troubling for the moment is our lack of sealift capacity and the leaked policy papers planning retirement of many maritime patrol aircraft) we have been learning a lot about interoperability: co-ordinating and communicating between ships, services, and other nations. This sounds like it is surrendering some of our sovereignty in theory, but in praxis it allows us to get a lot of things done that we normally cannot.
Best case in point - the commander of MARLANT lectured on the Canadian humanitarian effort around the Gulf after Katrina. After the ships were loaded up with relief supplies, they departed Halifax with a coast guard breaker for UNREP because all the AORs were in refit. Once they rounded the Florida panhandle the breaker detached to tend to buoys up and down the coast, and the fleet attached a U.S. tanker - with overall command of the fleet still maintained on DDH 282 Athabaskan - to keep the ships topped up while they were aiding rescue efforts. Canadian sailors were later being ferried back and forth to the disaster zones by American landing craft.
It was very interesting :D
The Australian army, concerned with a lack of enlistments seek new recruits.

I guess you didn't notice that motorized bathtup has US Coast Guard markings on it, not Canadian. :yep:
If you think the Canadian cutbacks in military spending are bad, try checking out the cutbacks in the UK, I think most of the UK's armed forces are scheduled to be replaced by a white flag shortly.
:D Chock
At least Canada has an Airforce.:yep: Yea. And we trained most of the American Air Force in WW2. Are you sure about that? I think you mean the Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
Yea, hosted by Canada.:D And I do believe we had a number of Americans up here to learn before the American air force got into top shape.
As for the amalgamation, I guess I just plain forgot.
If you put all the military forces of the Commonwealth together we end up with a pretty nice military. Good thing of being part of a larger group of nations. Plus we kick all your butts in the Commonwealth games.

Hey, at least the Canucks know how to use their army, ours is so underfunded it's a miracle they don't land up driving tanks into giant puddles...
