Does anybody know how to increase frame rates?

First of, welcome to the forums.

To answer your question: frame rate can be increased by using lower visual settings. Minimal settings provide the best framerate but the game doesn't look so pretty.

The other way to increase frame rate is to upgrade your system. Also of importance is the fact that high Time COmpression (above 2048) is difficult to handle for all but the fastest PCs.

switch is correct.

Also, before starting the game, make sure you close all the other programs you have running. Even those in the bottom/right Taskbar (System Tray). You can right-click and close many of those to free up more memory. Leave your Firewall and Antivirus running though...

I also often look at the Performance tab of the Task Manager to see how much Physical Memory is Available before starting the game.

If you still need to speed the game up, there are other tricks like running msconfig and rebooting you can try later if needed.

Yes spending $4,000.00 is one way to improve your frame rates.

Im thinking the OP is looking for ways to improve performance with the rig he currently has.

Funny thing is a rig like yours costs a little over $2,5k now :hmm:

Uh, where the heck did you find $2.5K for that rig?

I'm within $10 of $2.5K after the CPU, Video Card, RAM, PSU, and Motherboard. I don't think you're going to be able to pay for the rest of the stuff for $10.

I know prices right now since I just got a computer with similar spec to clayp:

Intel QX6800 @ 2.93 Ghz
2 x EVGA 8800 GTX in SLI
4 GB (4 x 1 GB) Corsair DDR2 800 PC2-6400
Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Mobo
Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound Card
Tagan 1100 Watt PSU
1 TB (2 x 500 GB SATA II HDDs in RAID 0)
500 GB SATA II Storage HDD
18X Dual Layer DVD/R/RW
16X DVD/R
Vista Home Premium
CoolerMaster Stacker 830

You can make some thing to help with FPS.

Make a complete maintenece of your PC, registry and all you can.

Uninstall the game, defrag your hard drive, and install the game on a fresh defraged hard drive.

Attempt to run the game with all non necesary programs into the back ground killed. You can use for it "End it All 2".

Attempt to run the game with all non necesary back ground proccess closed. You can use fot this "Security Task Manager".

Be sure you are not connected to internet when you close, antivirus, antihacker or anti spyware programs.

Be sure you have a big "Virtual Memory" asigned.

You can reduce your graphic settings.

Reduce game resolution, Try 1024... this helps a lot.

If not enough, attempt to use a non build in sound card. Onboard sound cards kills your FPS. Attempt to buy a PCI one, with hardware accelleration for sounds. (Like X-Fi, or better an X-Fi Fatality with onboard 64MB RAM included)

Be sure you have enough RAM, people jumping from 1GB to 2GB report improvements.

Be sure you are using the speediest RAM you Motherborad can accept, and they have the correct timming and they are runing into Dual Channel.

If it is not enough, you must to consider CPU or Graphic Card upgrade, but may be better, if you can live with your actual hardware, do not expend money, and wait for your next computer upgrade.

Hope some of these can help...

Is that Vista Home Premium 64 bit so you can take advantage of your 4GB memory? I also have 4 GB memory but am running XP 32 bit so I don't get the full boat advantage...so I've heard and read...

I've got Vista Home Premium 32-Bit for now. I thought about getting 64-bit, but there are still problems with it and I'll upgrade when those get sorted out.

Besides, the computer is still as fast as a cheetah on speed.

Windows XP supports up to 4 GB of physical memory. If you right-click "My Computer" and select properties. it should tell you how much RAM the OS sees.

From http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx:

"The maximum amount of memory that can be supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 is also 4 GB"

Mine sayz 2.75 GB memory on a 4 GB system. I'm running XP Media edition 32 bit. Also have two 7900GS's @ 256 mb each. It's confusing.

But you have to keep in mind that things like video cards, sound cards, and other things like that which still have physical memory, restricting the amount of memory that can be addressed.

I can't check how much my computer sees right now though because my computer is currently in for repairs with the manufacturer. :shifty:
