SH4 Multiplayer - Newbie Question

Hello everyone,

Before I go through the process of setting up multiplayer for SH4, my ultimate newbie question is: What does the multiplayer mode in SH4 involve? Do subs come together and attack ships? Or can subs torpedo each other?
