Having a great time with the game. Was heading back to Pearl Harbor to conclude my first patrol, pumped time compression to 6000+ and then went to click something on the navigation map. My cursor turned into a white diamond and all my buttons got odd shapes. I decided to see what was happening on the bridge so I clicked to go there and ...

suddenly I got this screen of something like a big doll to the left, and to the right of it a pile of weird stuff with false teeth and an eyeball at the top.

I went to periscope and saw the same stuff.

Couldn't end the game, had to reboot. Strangest experience and NO I WASN'T SMOKIN WACKY WEED

Anybody else seen the weird screen?

:p

At 6000+ unless you are running a Cray you probably overloaded just about every system on your pc.

At 6000+ TC, I doubt even the Cray "Supercomputer" would keep from frying up things on the screen.

@OBarbas,
Smells a little fishy don't you think? +6000 TC ???

I've used 8192 before...as long as you're in wide-open ocean it's not too bad, but I do have a pretty powerful system.

Anything over 2000 TC is a very good chance for Crash & Burn, also possible missed sightings. Some people have no patience whatsoever, everything must be done Yesterday. I did not think SHIV was meant to be a "Shootem' Up-Bang-Bang" with the speed of the gods.

Oh well, back to my slow ( and enjoyable ) simulation.

I find it retarded taht recommended specs can't handle the default highest TC :/

I agree Elder-Pirate!

Ehm, I have no problems whatsoever keeping TC at 8129 (or whatever it is) even near harbors. Sure it goes a bit laggy, but stable and it keeps going. Although I usually try to stay below 1000 when close to traffic.

Have had several bad experiences using high TC, like not being able to lower TC as you approach your base, and running up on the dock. No crashes yet.

Hey Elder-Pirate, when you've got no fish left in your tubes and you're off the Japanese islands and have to return to Pearl Harbor to dock and start your next patrol ... mate if you want to cross the Pacific at 1x speed, that's your choice. :o

I want to get back and reload - at 6000x - and go hunting again - at 1x - not wank myself in front of a computer for 10 days at real time while I sail thousands of nm with no torpedoes. Unless you get off on avoiding a plane every 3 real-time days.

So, enjoy your leisurely game but that's not my cup of tea. :rotfl:

My friend The Belgian ... that picture you put up ...

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2130/huladancer01un1.jpg

looks suspiciously similar to what I saw in colour and texture. WTF is it?

I'm running a 2.2GHz dual core Intel with 2 GIG RAM and the latest NVidia GEForce. I've kicked it up to 9000x, no worries, except for this one, strange incident!

Cheers

Hang on a bit there ... if you sail from Freemantle to Darwin at real time instead of pushing TC to the floor, all I can say is you obviously have a lot more free time in a day than me. Any IJN you might possibly find in that area would have to be either flying a white flag or, the entire crew are high on something:D

Do yourself a favour and use the - and + buttons to go higher or lower time compression . Always go back to 1 TC before you click on anything else . When you save go to 1TC , turn the radar off , be surfaced and have no contacts and your game should be trouble free as long as its also legit copy in the DVD :yep: .

Maybe you were in a hurry and did not read some of my post which was...Quote..Anything over 2000 TC.......Unquote.

I usually run from 1024 to little under 2000 TC ( don't remember exact figure ) and since 1.2 I have not had problems like your messed up screen ( what a mess eh? :hmm: ). Sure it takes me a little while longer to get across the pond, but my Sim/Game does not get all screwed up and it's a little closer to real life for me.

Below is part of the 1.2 patch and I think the Devs knew what they were talking about:

Silent Hunter 4 - Wolves of the Pacific
Patch v1.2

5.4. Known Problems
The water surface isn't updated during game pause.
Game input depends on framerate which can cause problems especially when
playing with higher time acceleration.
Due to the extremely vast area of land and great number of objects many
small collision problems can be experienced.

Now if you will excuse me I'll get back on my "Slow Boat to China"...........er Japan.:D

No worries Elder-Pirate, it's all in fun!

I still would like to know WTF that screen was though and where it came from? It was darned spooky.

Real-time is a little slow for those long cross-Pacific cruises to Japan! However, I rarely exceed 512x. I don't want to miss any likely Jap targets along the way!

The anomaly you see may be the Island Godess, upset because you TC'ed by so fast that you didn't stop for a visit! Beware bad voodoo!:88)

I gotta agree with ya on this one. I won't play SH if I feel like I'm in the mood for fast paced stuff, it just doesn't fit.

While I don't do entire patrols in real time, I rarely go over 512 TC, and there have been plenty of evenings when I don't touch time compression at all, and just sit back and relax. It can be very soothing to just listen to the engines drone, and the waves lapping against the hull after a hard day at work.

It really makes it much more exciting as well, when I do get the occasional sighting(especially aircraft spotted!)
"snooze.....snore....AIRCRAFT SPOTTED! huh?! what!? GAH! Dive! dive dammit! dive!!!"
I usually spill my coffee on those. :p

I get enough of hurry up and get it yesterday every day at work. I don't need it in my sim life too!

I had a crash too, yesterday, but no strange dolls. I had just put some new stuff on my Salmon, and the crew refused to man the deckgun. I had to go there myself to fire it (calm waters), and after that I pressed something and the game crashed.
